The evolution of subject headings is drastic, with controlled vocabularies to be inclusive of people searching rather than what is “correct” for classification. Surges in natural language terms, emphasis on “folksonomy” tags, a need for equitable search, and metadata structures; controlled vocabularies are more useful to researchers than ever before.
