Polish teams trained by GUT coaches Piotr Renkiel and Kazimierz Rozwadowski came third in the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2019 in Amsterdam and fourth in the European Games in Minsk.
In Amsterdam the Polish players achieved their biggest success in the history of this discipline, defeating Australia (18:16), Latvia (15:13) and Brazil (21:12) while losing only to Japan (17:21) in the group phase. The team left its group from the first place and played against Puerto Rico in the quarterfinals. Winning 21:14, the Polish became one of the four best teams in the world, but unfortunately in the semifinals they faced the Americans, future world champions, losing 22:8. Playing for the third place, the Polish team defeated Serbia 18:15, winning bronze medals of the world cup.
In Minsk in the group phase the Polish won against Romania (21:0) and Andorra (21:12), losing only to Serbia (14:20). In the quarterfinals they defeated Lithuania 19:16, however in the semifinals the Russian representation proved better (13:17). Playing for bronze medals the Polish team lost to Belarus 15:21, finishing the European Games at the fourth place.
Both Polish teams were composed of members of the national 3x3 basketball representation, coached by Piotr Renkiel, graduate of the GUT Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering who for years represented the university at academic championships, and Kazimierz Rozwadowski, the GUT Academic Sports Centre teacher, who also coaches the university basketball section and the U23 3x3 Polish basketball representation. Since the games in Amsterdam and Minsk took place at the same time, Piotr Renkiel lead the team in the Netherlands and Kazimierz Rozwadowski in Belarus.
"It's clear how strong our teams are when you take into consideration that only two countries, Poland and Latvia, had their representations in the TOP4 of both tournaments. The experience we gained will be very useful in matches to come", Kazimierz Rozwadowski claims.
