The European HR Excellence in Research logo for Gdańsk University of Technology

The European Commission has granted our university the right to use the prestigious HR Excellence in Research logo. Gdańsk University of Technology was thus recognized as an institution that provides one of the best work and development conditions for researchers in Europe.

The HR Excellence in Research logo is a symbol of quality assuring the highest standards in research and employment. The right to use the symbol affirms the institution's prestige as a result of meeting European standards and increases the interest of potential candidates for scientific positions. Thanks to it Gdańsk University of Technology will be favoured in national and international grant competitions. Receiving the logo also translates into additional points awarded by the Scientific Units Evaluation Committee for parametric evaluation of scientific units. Moreover, the University will be able to post ads on the European Euraxess Research Recruiting Platform, where the HR Excellence in Research logo will appear next to the University’s name.

The award of this symbol is intended to contribute to increasing the mobility of researchers in the European Institutions as well as to the attractiveness of national research systems and the European Research Area. It can be used by organizations designated by the European Commission that have or implement Human Resources Strategy for Researchers.

- This distinction is due to the implementation of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. Their assumptions coincide with the development strategy of GUT, aiming to increase its innovativeness and attractiveness for all employees. ‘We want our university to be a convenient place for researchers to work freely in the European Research Area’, stresses prof. Jacek Namieśnik, rector of Gdańsk University of Technology – ‘Thank you very much to all those involved in the process of obtaining this prestigious logo. At the same time, I realize that the process of improvement in this area is not yet completed.’

The implementation process was preceded by an in-depth analysis of opinion polls on the compliance of regulations and actions of the University with the provisions of the Charter and the Code, conducted among academic and research staff and Ph.D. students of Gdańsk University of Technology. The survey was addressed to all GUT researchers. More than 1000 people provided their answers (over 70% of GUT researchers).

A panel of experts assessing GUT’s application for the right to use the HR Excellence in Research logo appreciated the actions taken by Gdańsk University of Technology to adapt HR practices to the Charter and the Code recommendations, so the European Commission accepted the request of our University.

The European Commission regularly monitors the institutions using the HR Excellence in Research logo to ensure that standards are maintained. A full list of scientific institutions that can use this symbol is available on the EURAXESS website.
