It is a tradition that every year GUT students from China organize to celebrate one of the most important holidays in the Chinese calendar – Chinese New Year.
This year's meeting was held in the Hevelius Courtyard on January 23rd. In the meeting, conducted both in Chinese and Polish by two GUT students from China, took part students, guests from the Consulate of the People's Republic of China – Ms Zhao Xiuzhen (Consul General), Mr Wang Qingshan (Vice Consul), and Mr Du Ming (Vice Consul), the Dean of Confucius Institute at University of Gdańsk Ms Zhang Jie, representatives of GUT authorities, faculties and International Relations Office.
– I am very grateful to all Chinese students who decided to complete part of their studies in Poland, and notably in Gdańsk. Your presence in Gdańsk significantly enriches the City and our universities. The incoming New Year is the Year of the Rat, and because Rat is the first sign in the Chinese zodiac, this year should be very good for starting new things, new undertakings, new projects, and so on. I have a great hope indeed that 2020 will be a year of happiness, luck and success for China and Poland, and for all Chinese students in Poland – said prof. Janusz Nieznański, Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Innovation, wishing at the same time happy Chinese New Year to all guests.
The programme of the Chinese New Year, full of artistic presentations, popular Chinese games and tasting some traditional Chinese dishes, was made entirely by the students. It was a great chance for them to present Chinese culture and tradition.
– Almost 100 students from China study at our university which made them of the biggest group of international students at GUT. Many times in past students from China were involved in events organised at the university like the Long Night of Museums or International Christmas Tree. We put a lot of effort to help all our international students, including students from China, to feel like a part of the university community - said Anna Modrzejrzewska, Head of GUT International Relations Office.
