Dates and rules of conducting the classes after the 25th of May. Information for students and lecturers

The authorities of Gdańsk University of Technology, in consultation with the GUT Students' Union, decided to introduce changes in the functioning of the university and a new organization of classes in the summer semester. The changes also apply to the allocation of places and student returns to dormitories.

The most important information resulting from the decision taken by the university authorities on 19 May 2020 relates to the dates and principles of resuming didactic classes at Gdańsk University of Technology in the summer semester of the academic year 2019/2020.

It appears that students and lecturers will not return to the university before 1 June 2020. However, this will only apply to those fields of study which include laboratory classes that require the student's physical presence at the university.

The final organisation of the program of implementation of classes in individual faculties will be left to the deans of faculties.

Lectures and classes

Lectures and classes in all departments of all GUT faculties, and all other classes organized so far in a remote form, will continue to be carried out in this formula until the end of the main part of the semester (they must end by 5 July 2020 at the latest).

The recommendation about the remote implementation of classes before the start of the holiday also applies to lectures and classes that were suspended during the pandemic and did not even take place remotely.

The university authorities recommended the faculty authorities to organize such classes in June in a remote form, and in a situation when it would be necessary to carry them out in the traditional form (i.e. with the physical presence of students and lecturers at the university), it will be possible to complete them after 31 August 2020 at the earliest. In extreme cases, they will be moved to the next academic year.

In the case of physical education classes, detailed information on passing the summer semester will be published in the coming days on the website of the GUT Academic Sport Center (3 June at the latest). It is certain, however, that the students will not be required to be present at GUT to work off their classes.

Laboratory classes

By decision of the university authorities, it will be possible to perform laboratory classes - which require the presence of students at the university - starting from 1 June 2020 (however, this does not apply to all faculties). The deans are responsible for their implementation and providing information about the schedule of these classes to students and lecturers (information will be placed on faculty websites).

Information on the implementation of laboratory classes along with a detailed schedule of making up for them will be provided to students and lecturers by Friday, 22 May 2020 at the latest (by the end of the day), via messages on the faculty websites, i.e. 10 days before the resumption of laboratory classes (from 1 June).

Exam session

The exam session in the 2019/2020 academic year will take place in a mixed form, i.e. some of the exams and credits will be held remotely, and some in the traditional form.

The schedule of exams and credits in the basic and retake sessions, as well as the form of conducting them (traditional or remote), will be determined by the deans (in consultation with the teachers and the seniors/prefects of the years). They will then be published on the faculties' websites (by 3 June 2020 at the latest).

Return to the dorms

Given the pandemic state still in force in Poland, GUT dormitories will be prepared for the return of students based on current sanitary GIS recommendations. At the same time, it should be remembered that return to student houses should take place only in justified cases.

Rules for returns and allocating places in GUT student dorms:

• Students residing in dormitories from the beginning of the pandemic will be able to stay in them until 5 July 2020.

• Students who left the dormitories before the pandemic state was introduced in Poland (or during this state), and who will not have to return to them before 5 July 2020, will be able to collect their belongings from 21 May 2020 (Thursday) . Things can be either taken with you or put in a dedicated storage room.

• Students who have left dormitories but plan to return and re-enter for the duration of the exam session (or making up for classes) will be able to accommodate in them from Sunday 24 May 2020.

• Students who during the pandemic terminated contracts with the owners of external sites, and will be obliged to appear at the university and will not be able to find accommodation in Gdańsk, will be allocated periodically free places in GUT dorms (subject to availability). Decisions in this regard will be made individually by the management of the GUT student estate.

People returning to dormitories are required to read the dedicated message [HERE]

In turn, Student House No. 11, intended by the decision of the Pomeranian voivode for the use of sanitary authorities in the event of an epidemic worsening, will remain out of use for now. Students who lived in it before the pandemic will be accommodated in other student houses.
