Inauguration of the Academic Year 2018/2019 with a Lecture by Prof. Jerzy Buzek

The open session of Gdańsk University of Technology Senate and the inauguration of the academic year 2018/2019 will take place on October 5th at 11:15 in the Grand Hall of the Main Building. The inaugural lecture will be given by Prof. Jerzy Buzek, Member of the European Parliament, Chairman of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy.

 

The main ceremony inaugurating the new academic year will begin with a speech by Prof. Jacek Namieśnik, rector of Gdańsk University of Technology. Afterwards, medals and distinctions will be awarded.

In the next part of the ceremony, the matriculation of undergraduate and PhD students will take place. Also, Prof. Romuald Szczęsny’s prize will be awarded for the best diploma thesis prepared at Gdańsk University of Technology. Members of the Polytechnic Business Club within the GUT Graduates Association will award the prize for the best student of the university.

Prof. Jerzy Buzek will give an inaugural lecture entitled "Digital Revolution: Will Engineers Save Europe?".

The Academic Choir of Gdańsk University of Technology conducted by Mariusz Mróz, PhD, will perform during the ceremony.

Inauguration will be broadcasted on the GUT YouTube channel.

  • Faculty of Chemistry – September 27th at 13:15, Grand Hall of the Main Building
  • Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics – September 28th at 10:15, Auditorium No. 1, the New ETI building
  • Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering – September 28th at 9:30, Grand Hall of the Main Building
  • Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics – September 28th at 10:00, Auditorium Maximum
  • Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering – September 27th at 10:15, Grand Hall of the Main Building
  • Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – September 28th at 13:00, Auditorium Novum
  • Faculty of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology – September 28th at 13:30, Grand Hall of the Main Building
  • Faculty of Management and Economics – September 29th at 10:00, Grand Hall of the Main Building

Church service for students and employees of the local university community will take place on October 1st at 8:00 at the Archcathedral Basilica in Gdańsk Oliwa.

On October 5th at 8:30 the authorities of Gdańsk University of Technology will lay wreaths at the Monument of the Fallen Shipyard Workers.

The entire community of our university is invited to participate in these events.
