The European Commission granted our university the right to use the prestigious HR Excellence in Research logo, recognizing Gdańsk University of Technology as an institution which provides one of the best work and development conditions for researchers in Europe.
The HR Excellence in Research logo is a symbol of quality assuring the highest standards of research and employment. The right to use this logo confirms that a given institution meets the highest European standards and increases the interest of potential candidates for scientific positions. Gdańsk University of Technology will also be favored in national and international grant competitions. Furthermore, we gain the right to post recruitment opportunities on the EURAXESS career development platform, where the HR Excellence in Research logo will appear next to the university’s name.
Awarding this symbol is intended to contribute to the increase of researchers' mobility in the European institutions as well as to the attractiveness of national research systems and the European Research Area.
"We owe this distinction to the implementation of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. Provisions included in these documents are in line with the GUT development strategy, which aims to increase our innovativeness and attractiveness for all employees. We want our university to be an appealing place for researchers, letting them to work freely within the European Research Area", says Prof. Jacek Namieśnik, rector of Gdańsk University of Technology. "I want to thank very much all the people involved in obtaining this prestigious logo. At the same time I realize that the process of improvement in this area is not yet completed", the rector states.
The implementation process was preceded by an in-depth analysis of opinion polls on the compliance of university regulations and actions with the provisions of the Charter and Code, conducted among academic and research staff as well as Ph.D. students of Gdańsk University of Technology. The survey was addressed to all GUT researchers. More than a thousand people provided their answers (over 70% of the GUT scientific staff).
A panel of experts assessing the GUT's application for the right to use the HR Excellence in Research logo appreciated the actions taken by Gdańsk University of Technology in order to adapt its HR practices to the Charter and Code recommendations, which resulted in the acceptance of our request by the European Commission.
The European Commission regularly monitors the institutions which use the HR Excellence in Research logo to ensure that its standards are maintained. The full list of scientific institutions with the right to use this symbol is available on the EURAXESS website.
