The Gdańsk University of Technology Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering participates in TEACHENER, a project co-financed by the Erasmus+ strategic partnerships program of the European Commission. Standing for Integrating Social Sciences and Humanities into Teaching about Energy, TEACHENER is a three-year-long project which started in September 2016 and is dedicated to technical universities.
TEACHENER aims to fill the gap between social sciences, humanities and energy teaching at European universities by transposing social sciences and humanities to the domain of technical higher education. The project partners will design a flexible education tool called an Edu-Kit to help teachers in covering various social aspects of energy technology. The tool will also be tested at the universities involved in the project during two winter schools.
Through TEACHENER energy studies graduates will gain interdisciplinary skills, knowledge and competencies in social sciences and humanities which will enable them to better respond to the needs of the labor market.
The project is coordinated by the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland, and implemented by Gdańsk University of Technology, the Czech Technical University in Prague, the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig, Germany, the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona and Merience, a think tank also based in Barcelona, Spain.
Gdańsk University of Technology will also organize the project's final event, which will be held in 2019 and consist of a conference and two workshop sessions. During the conference the project results will be presented to a broad audience. The workshop session will provide an overview of the Edu-Kit for young scholars and postdocs working in the field of energy engineering, showing them the advantages of using the Edu-Kit in their teaching practice.
At Gdańsk University of Technology TEACHENER is coordinated by Andrzej Augusiak, D.Sc., Vice-Dean for Development at the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering.
