The Music of Water and Fire. First Outdoor Concert at Gdańsk University of Technology

On a Saturday, June night we invite the citizens of Gdańsk and its surroundings as well as tourists visiting the region to the first open, outdoor concert on one of the most beautiful campuses in Europe – the one of Gdańsk University of Technology. The event will take place outdoors, on the 16th of June at 21:30–23:00 in front of the GUT Main Building. The program includes compositions of Georg Friedrich Haendel performed by a baroque orchestra and academic choires from Gdańsk and Cracow, as well as a firework display. The admission is free.


"Thanks to its outstanding architecture and attractive location, the GUT campus was this year ranked among the ten most beautiful campuses in Europe by the Times Higher Education portal. For this reason, following the examples of the best academic centers in the world, we want to open it to the citizens and tourists visiting our region and demonstrate its splendor. The open outdoor concert, to which I want to invite all enthusiasts of good music, will present a great opportunity to do that. We would like this event to become a mainstay among the cultural events in the area", says Prof. Jacek Namieśnik, the rector of Gdańsk University of Technology.

The repertoire consists of Georg Friedrich Haendel's compositions performed by the Academic Choir of Gdańsk University of TechnologyCracow University of Technology "Cantata" (prepared by Marta Stós) and the "Sinfonia Nordica" Gdynia Baroque Orchestra conducted by Mariusz Mróz, PhD DSc, the conductor of the Academic Choir of GUT. We will listen to pieces such as the coronation anthem "Zadok the Priest", "Water Music" and "Music for the Royal Fireworks". Agnieszka Oszczyk, journalist and presenter of the Polish Television, will be the concert's announcer. The stage will be set on the stairs in front of the Main Building. For the participants' convenience, two large screens will be put up along the building's historical facade.

The music will be accompanied by a firework display beginning just after the concert, around 23:00.

The event will take place outdoors. Children, young adults, adults and seniors are invited. A payable catering area with food trucks and attractions for children (cotton candy, ice cream, beverages) will be available. Participants are encouraged to bring blankets and put them on the lawns in front of the GUT Main Building. Due to the fact that the concert is not ticketed, please arrive early.

REMARKS: Alcohol consumption during the event is strictly prohibited. Please refer to the attached campus map to find first aid points, information points, parking places etc.
