8th International Conference on Unsolved Problems on Noise
Gdańsk University of Technology, Gdańsk, 9-13 July 2018
The first conference, organized by Laszlo Kish, was held in Szeged, Hungary in 1996 and surveyed wide range of open problems of noise. It had double-blind refereeing system. Conference participants recall its warm and productive atmosphere. The Proceedings were published by World Scientific.
The second one, organized by Derek Abbott, was hosted by Adelaide, Australia in 1999 and focused mainly on mathematical aspects and paradoxes in noise and fluctuation research. The Proceedings were published by AIP. The conference received coverage in Nature ("Random fluctuations - Unsolved problems of noise, Nature 401, p.23, Sept. 2, 1999").
The third one, organized by Sergey Bezrukov, was held in the National Institutes of Health campus in Bethesda (Washington, DC) in 2002, and focused mainly on biology, biophysics, and biomedical engineering aspects. The Proceedings were published by AIP.
The fourth one, organized by Lino Reggiani, was held in Gallipoli, Italy in 2005, and focused on noise and fluctuations at the nanometric scale-length in electron-devices, bio-materials, and mesoscopic systems. The Proceedings were published by AIP.
The fifth one, organized by Sergio Ciliberto, was held in Lyon, France in 2008, and had a special section on crackling noise that appears in many physical, bilogical, geological and technological problems. The Proceedings were published by Journal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment.
The sixth UpoN conference, organized by Kamal K. Bardhan, took place in Kolkata, India 2012. The proceedings of the conference were published in a special issue of the Fluctuation and Noise Letters journal.
The last UpoN conference, organized by Xavier Oriols, took place in Barcelona, Spain 2015. The proceedings of the conference were published in a special issue of the Journal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment.
