This course aims to equip participants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to perform reactor physics calculations for nuclear systems.
The course focuses on the study of neutron transport in nuclear reactors at the core level. This enables full-core simulations, which are required for core design and to ensure the safe operation of such systems.
Participants will gain the ability to apply methods for neutron transport modelling at the core level under steady-state conditions using Monte Carlo and deterministic approaches. The course also enables students to carry out numerical simulations of neutron transport using state-of-the-art models and computational codes.
Participants will also learn about key quantities to be evaluated in these simulations for the operation of Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) and Boiling Water Reactors (BWR).
The course consists of two phases: a four-week online self-paced learning phase, followed by a five-day intensive interactive phase. After the interactive part, participants are granted an additional month to complete tasks and improve their grades if needed.
