
The Nitrogenium Supporting Excellence In Publishing program is part of the implementation of the tasks of the ‘Excellence Initiative - Research University’ program in terms of improving the quality of the university's scientific activity. Its purpose is to support the publication of research results of Gdańsk Tech employees and doctoral students in the best world scientific journals.
For whom?
The program is addressed to employees of Gdansk University of Technology and doctoral students.
What you stand to gain?
(1) Financial bonuses are granted for publishing an article in the year 2025 in a scientific journal meeting the following conditions:
a) being in the five highest percentiles (99%-95%) of its category according to the Scopus classification;
b) the status of belonging of this journal to the group of the world's best scientific periodicals is confirmed by the highest possible score (200 pts.) in the currently valid list of scientific journals of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education;
c) the scientific discipline assigned to the journal in the list of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education indicated in § 2 item 1b is subject to evaluation at Gdansk University of Technology by the Committee for the Evaluation of Science.
(2) The bonus shall not be granted in situations when: a) due to the publication of an article, the publication output of the University, which will be taken into account in the evaluation of the quality of scientific activity for the period 2022-2025, is not increased, due to the early filling of the slot limit by all authors of this publication from the University; or b) the fact of the creation of a publication as a result of an action incompatible with the principles of publishing ethics is found/confirmed (including, among others. including, but not limited to, the use of so-called paper mills, fictitious co-authorship, the use of citation farms/cooperatives and methods called “sneaked references” or acting within the framework of so-called publication cooperatives).
(3) The financial bonus for an article is 20,000 PLN gross if the journal is in the 99% percentile, 15,000 PLN gross if the journal is in the 98-97% percentiles, and 12,000 PLN gross if the journal is in the 96-95% percentiles.
(4) The financial bonus shall be granted to all authors of publications who are employees of the University, who do not have their slot limit filled, or who are doctoral students of the University, provided that the article contains the affiliation of the University of that author. In the case of:
a) a single author from the University - he/she receives the entire bonus;
b) a larger number of co-authors from the University - the bonus is divided among them on the basis of creative shares, declared in MojaPG, resulting from the joint statement of the co-authors, or in the absence of such a statement, on the basis of equal shares;
c) a single author from the University of a multi-author publication, where the co-authors represent foreign universities/institutions - the bonus for a given publication is 1/3 of the bonus amount according to para. 3;
d) a smaller number of co-authors from the University than the number of co-authors representing universities/foreign institutions - the bonus for a given publication is 1/2 of the bonus amount in accordance with paragraph 3. The bonus is divided among the co-authors from the University on the basis of the creative shares declared in my PG, resulting from the joint statement of the co-authors, or in the absence of such a statement, on the basis of equal shares. The bonus for a doctoral student, a participant of the PG Doctoral School/PG Implementation Doctoral School, for participation in a multi-author publication is granted only if the subject matter of the publication is related to the subject matter of the doctoral dissertation carried out at the PG Doctoral School/PG Implementation Doctoral School, which will be confirmed by a written statement by the promoter.
(5) In the case of employees of the University, the bonus shall be paid in the form of an appropriate salary component as specified in the salary regulations, while in the case of doctoral students of the University - in the form of a scholarship from the own scholarship fund of the Gdansk University of Technology.
(6) The bonus awarded for a paper article in which false data or empirical research results were used, or other unethical practices were found to have been used, resulting in the retraction of the publication by the journal editors, shall be returned in full to the University's account.
How and when to apply for a grant?
Recruitment in the program is on a continuous basis.

The application should obligatorily include attachments:
- a printout of the so-called fiche from the MojaPG system,
- confirmation of the journal's position in the relevant percentiles in its category in the Scopus database,
- confirmation of the scoring and assigned scientific discipline of the journal in the MNiSW list,
- signed and completed by PG co-authors annex Percentage Statement of Co-authors (the current template of the annexes can be found on the program website in the red box). - The attachment should be signed by all co-authors of the article from Gdańsk Tech.
- The application can be submitted only after the article is published in its final form in 2025.
