BIG-4 Rankings:

QS World University Rankings 

In QS World University Rankings 2024, Gdańsk University of Technology ranked between 851 and 900, achieving the 6th result among 22 Polish universities classified in the ranking.

The 2024 edition of QS WUR presents the best universities from around the world, covered 104 countries and analysed data from 2,963 universities. The universities were ranked and only the best 1,499 universities were finally classified according to the ranking rules.

Gdańsk Tech scored a total of 13.0 points, placing it in the TOP 57% of universities worldwide.

The university's ranking score was based on nine indicators:

 - Academic reputation survey – 30%

 - Employer reputation survey – 15%

 - Number of academic teachers per student – 10%

 - Number of citations per researcher – 20%

 - Percentage of academic teachers from abroad – 5%

 - Percentage of foreign students – 5%

 - Graduate employment rate and income – 5%

 - Level of internationalisation of the university's research network – 5%

 - Sustainability – 5%

 

ARWU – ShanghaiRanking's Academic Ranking of World Universities

In 2023, Gdańsk University of Technology ranked between 901 and 1000.

ARWU is one of the most prestigious and influential university rankings. It ranks universities from around the world according to several indicators:

- Alumni or staff honoured with a Nobel Prize or Fields Medal – total 30%

- HiCi (Highly Cited Researchers) – 20% 

- N&S (Papers published in Nature and Science) – 20%

- PUB (Papers indexed in Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Science Citation Index) – 20%

- PCP (Per capita academic performance of an institution) – 10%.

 

THE World University Rankings

THE World University Rankings 2024 ranked 1904 universities from 108 countries. Gdańsk University of Technology was ranked between 1001 and 1200. 

This ranking based on the new WUR 3.0 methodology, which includes 18 indicators grouped into five areas:

- Teaching (learning environment) – 29.5% weighting;

- Research environment (size, income and reputation) – 29%;

- Research quality (citation impact, research strength, research excellence and research impact) – 30%;

- Internationalisation (staff, students and research) – 7.5%;

- Industry (income and patents) – 4%.

 

U.S. News Best Global Universities

In 2022-2023 ranking, Gdańsk Tech ranked at 1218 position.

Best Global Universities Rankings ranks universities from the US and more than 90 other countries based on 13 indicators that measure academic performance and their global and regional reputation.

Data for the ranking are provided by the Clarivate. Ranking considers 13 indicators:

- Global research reputation – 12.5%

- Regional research reputation – 12.5%

- Publications ­– 10%

- Books – 2.5%

- Conferences – 2.5%

- Normalized citation impact – 10%

- Total citations – 7.5%

- Number of publications that are among the 10% most cited – 12.5%

Regional Rankings:


QS University Rankings Europe 

QS University Rankings in 2023 published a ranking of exclusively European universities for the first time. It ranked 688 universities from 42 countries.

Gdańsk University of Technology was ranked 319th in the ranking. In the classification of universities from Eastern European countries, Gdańsk University of Technology was ranked 24th. Nationally, it was ranked 6th and at the same time is the second-highest ranked university of technology from Poland.


Sustainability and Impact Rankings:


UI GreenMetric World University Ranking

In the UI GreenMetric 2023 ranking, Gdańsk University of Technology was ranked 1st in Poland and 197th in the world, scoring over 82%.

Gdańsk Tech was rated highest in the 'education and research' category, where it scored 90%. Then, it stood out in the 'transportation' category, where our University received 89% of the points, and in the 'waste' category – received 88% of the points.

The UI GreenMetric ranking examines the university's commitment to environmental issues (including infrastructure, transport, water and electricity consumption, waste management, climate and environmental care). The wealth of educational offerings and research activities undertaken in the area of sustainability is also an important consideration for the organiser.


 

QS World University Rankings: Sustainability

QS Sustainability Ranking measures a university's commitment and achievements in pursuing sustainable development goals. In QS Sustainability 2024, Gdańsk University of Technology was ranked 3rd among Polish universities, 182nd among European universities and 420th in the world.

The second edition of the ranking focused on the assessment of universities in 3 areas: environmental and social impact and corporate governance, considering them important in the assessment of the university's efforts to solve the most relevant problems of today's world and to promote more sustainable production and consumption. Gdańsk University of Technology was rated highest in the area of social impact (ranked 364th in the world) and corporate governance (ranked 392nd).

The QS Sustainability 2024 ranking included 1403 universities from around the world, including almost 500 from Europe and 21 from Poland.

THE Impact Rankings

THE Impact is a global ranking based on the Sustainable Development Goals created by the United Nations. In THE Impact 2023, Gdańsk Tech maintained a position in the 601-800 range, which translated into a position of 4-8 in Poland.

Out of 17 Sustainable Development Goals, Gdańsk Tech was ranked in 11 of them, in two achieving the best score in Poland: Clean water and sanitation (SGD 6) and Responsible production and consumption (SDG 12) - 101-200 position in whole world.

The 2023 edition of THE Impact ranking involved 1591 universities.

Web Presence and Visibility Ranking:


Webometrics Ranking Web of Universities

In 2024, Gdańsk University of Technology was ranked 1079th in the world. 

Webometrics is a ranking that primarily considers the presence and visibility of universities on the web, although it is not a ranking of university websites. The purpose of the Webometrics ranking is to increase the online presence of academic and research institutions, to support Open Access endeavour and to encourage universities and researchers to ensure that their online presence reflects the reality of what they do.

The webometric indicators also measure – in an indirect way – other missions of universities, such as teaching or the 'third mission', taking into account not only the scientific impact of the university's activities, but also the economic importance of technology transfer to industry or social engagement.  The results of the ranking are published twice a year.

 

Subject-Specific Rankings:


GRAS – ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects

In 2023 edition of GRAS Gdańsk Tech was ranked in two subjects. In Instruments Science & Technology subject ranked 201-300 position in the world and in Mechanical Engineering subject – 301-400.

ShanghaiRanking began to publish world university ranking by academic subjects in 2009. The ranking is divided into 55 categories/disciplines, covering life sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences. More than 1,900 universities from 104 countries and regions are ranked in the 2023 subject ranking.

Several factors are taken into account for the ranking, these include the number of scientific publications (Q1) and their citations in a given field (CNCI), the share of foreign authors in the unit's publications (IC), the number of articles published in top scientific journals (Top) and the number of staff members who have received a significant award in a specific field (Award).

QS World University Rankings by Subject

In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024, Gdańsk University of Technology was ranked 3rd among Polish universities and 370 in whole world in the Engineering & Technology broad subject and in the range 501-550 in globe in the broad subject Natural Sciences.

In narrow subjects, Gdańsk Tech achieved the best results in:

  1. Engineering - Electrical & Electronic - ranked between 251-300
  2. Engineering - Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering - ranked between 301-350
  3. Chemical - ranked between 401-430
  4. Chemistry - ranked between 401-450
  5. Materials Sciences - ranked between 401-420
  6. Physics & Astronomy - ranked between 451-500
  7. Computer Science and Information Systems - ranked between 651-700

THE World University Rankings by Subject

In THE World University Rankings by Subject 2024, Gdańsk University of Technology was ranked 601-800 in the Engineering, Computer Sciences, Business and Economics and Life Sciences areas, and 801-1000 in the Physical Sciences ranking.

Nationally, in terms of Research quality, Gdańsk Tech was ranked 1st in Engineering and Physical Sciences and 3rd in Business and Economics.

THE World University Rankings by Subject use the same indicators as the main ranking, but calibrated to better match the specificities of the individual fields of study.

U.S. News Best Global Universities Subject Rankings

In the U.S. News Best Global Universities Subject Rankings 2022-23 published in 2022, Gdańsk University of Technology was ranked in 5 disciplines:

  1. Engineering – 408th position
  2. Electrical and Electronic Engineering – 485
  3. Chemistry – 569
  4. Materials Science – 590
  5. Computer Science – 688

Ranking Perspektywy

In Perspektywy 2023 Gdańsk Tech ranked 3rd among technical universities in Poland, and in the classification covering all Polish universities it again maintained its high 6th position.

The classification of the best fields of study was a great success this year. Three faculties from Gdańsk Tech were recognised as the best in Poland:

  1. Spatial Management (Faculty of Architecture)
  2. Environmental Engineering (Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering)
  3. Chemical Technology (Faculty of Chemistry)

For years, Gdańsk University of Technology has been one of the most popular universities in Poland.

In the academic year 2023/2024, an average of almost 8 (7.9) candidates applied for one place to study, thus our University was recognised by the Ministry of Education and Science as the most popular public university among candidates for full-time studies.
