The special purpose vehicle of Gdańsk Tech, Excento, and the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone have signed a cooperation agreement, under which the Protolab II prototyping laboratory will be established in the Gdańsk Science and Technology Park.

– By expanding Protolab in collaboration with the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone, we are co-creating an ecosystem conducive to the development of new technologies and original engineering projects. Protolab II will be a fully equipped technical workshop, enabling the construction of prototypes using wood and metal machining, as well as 3D printing – explains Krzysztof Malicki, CEO of Excento.

One of the main principles of Protolab's operation is its 24/7 availability for users. This will also be the case for the space at GPNT. After registration, the laboratory will be accessible to, among others, students and academic staff of Gdańsk Tech as well as members of interdisciplinary teams participating in the e-Pioneer project conducted by Excento.

The equipment of Protolab II at GPNT will complement the devices available in the first Protolab located on the premises of Gdańsk Tech. The equipment will include, among others: a lathe, milling machines, cutters, and an FDM printer. Utilizing the capabilities of both laboratories, users will be able to independently, for example, first create components and then construct a robot prototype. The second Protolab is scheduled to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Protolab II will also be part of the "Spacemaker" space, which is being created at the Gdańsk Science and Technology Park.

– "Spacemaker" is a new place designed for startups, innovative companies, and inventors who will be able to develop their unconventional ideas on a 400 m2 area. The space will be divided into several sections. One of them will house Protolab II, while the others will feature the Digital Innovation Hub related to Industry 4.0, implemented by VoiceLab in cooperation with the Skalp Robotics Association, as well as boxes where innovators can carry out some of their individual work on prototypes – explains Przemysław Sztandera, CEO of the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone.

In the upcoming months, Excento will additionally expand Protolab on the premises of Gdańsk Tech with further thematic modules, including a module dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI), space technologies, and augmented reality (VR) technologies.
