– The offshore wind energy sector in Poland will be one of the most dynamically developing sectors in the entire Polish economy, provided that it is possible to effectively combine the capabilities and competencies of research centers with industry and business in this field – said Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech. – This collaboration already looks promising, but it should be even closer and more integrated. Offshore wind energy is the future, as well as a promise we make to future generations and our planet. We must do everything to keep that promise – he added.
– We are already connected with Gdańsk Tech through research projects and cooperation in implementing the specialization in the design and construction of marine energy systems in the master’s studies in ocean engineering – said Dariusz Lociński, President of the Management Board of PGE Baltica. – However, we want to make the most of the collaboration potential, especially in educating the staff so needed in our industry. That is why we decided to engage in the postgraduate studies in the field of offshore wind energy, which have been running for several years and already enjoy a good reputation. We are committed to long-term cooperation with the university. We are already discussing creating another more specialized postgraduate program focused on offshore. Cooperation possibilities also include engineering studies, trainings, workshops, jointly organized study visits for high school students, the future students, as well as further joint scientific and research initiatives related to maritime projects carried out on the sea by the PGE Group – added the President of PGE Baltica.
Agreement on close cooperation between Gdańsk Tech and PGE
PGE Baltica cooperates with universities and scientific institutions both in training personnel for the offshore wind energy sector and in joint scientific and research projects for its own ventures – offshore wind farms being built on the Baltic Sea. The ceremonial signing of the agreement between PGE and Gdańsk Tech took place on Thursday, September 8, in the Senate Hall of Gdańsk Tech.
– The postgraduate studies Offshore Wind Energy are conducted at the Institute of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology at Gdańsk Tech – Prof. Marek Dzida, head of the Offshore Wind Energy postgraduate studies, said. – We were the first university in Poland to launch such postgraduate studies, responding to the demand of the Polish energy sector. From the autumn edition onwards, representatives of PGE Baltica’s management staff will also join the lecturing team.
The postgraduate studies in Offshore Wind Energy are conducted within the Competence Development Program for the Offshore Wind Energy sector. About 220 people have benefited from these studies in editions completed so far. Their sixth edition starts in October.
The partner of the program is the Polish Offshore Wind Energy Society headquartered in Gdynia.
