This year's edition of the ranking classified 226 universities from 27 European Union countries as well as Norway and Switzerland. Gdańsk University of Technology took 64th place in the ranking and second place among Polish technical universities.

EngiRank focuses on the assessment of technical universities in countries with a similar legal and cultural environment. It was developed in cooperation with the international publisher Elsevier. It takes into account indicators specific to Europe, such as participation in Erasmus+, Horizon Europe, European Research Council initiatives and consortia of European universities.

Gdańsk University of Technology's 64th place in the EngiRank 2024 ranking places it among the top technical universities in Europe. The TOP-100 group of Polish universities also includes: AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków (48th place), Warsaw University of Technology and Silesian University of Technology (ex aequo 64th place), Wrocław University of Science and Technology (78th place), as well as Poznań University of Technology and Łódź University of Technology (together in 96th place). The presence of Gdańsk University of Technology among the best European universities confirms its strong position and emphasizes its significant contribution to the technological development of the region and scientific achievements in the field of innovation and infrastructure. EngiRank also includes seven thematic rankings (by subject) covering the main fields of engineering. In the area of civil engineering, Gdańsk University of Technology took 42nd place, and in medical engineering – 54th. Gdańsk Tech is also in the top hundred in mechanical engineering (92), electrical, electronic and computer engineering (93) and environmental engineering (98). In the area of chemical and materials engineering, the university was ranked 109th and 126th, respectively.

The Engi Rank 2024 methodology reflects the multidimensional nature of technical universities. It includes not only traditional indicators, such as the number of publications and citations or the level of internationalization, but also aspects of cooperation with industry, joint research with business, the number of patents, implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and engineering accreditations (ENAEE, ABET). It uses data from Elsevier's Scopus database, PATSTAT of the European Patent Office and data from Horizon Europe and organizations accrediting engineering studies.

The greatest impact on the university's result in the ranking is made by scientific research (28%) and innovation (25%), which constitutes as much as 53% of the entire assessment. The third criterion is the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal No. 9 (SDG 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure), with a weight of 10%. The ranking also assesses the level of internationalization of the university, which constitutes 16% of the assessment, distinguishing institutions operating internationally and supporting academic mobility. The last criterion is engineering and technological capacity (21%).
