The Pomeranian Coalition for AI Industry and Data Processing Centers to be Established

AI and DPC as the key to Global Competitiveness
Digital transformation and the development of artificial intelligence and data processing centers are key areas of the global economy. According to Dragani's report, the European Union must intensify investments in digital technologies to remain competitive in the international arena. The introduction of advanced AI technologies and the development of the DPC sector are strategic elements of building competitive advantages in the global economy.
Poland, and especially Pomerania, has great potential to become the center of this transformation. Prime Minister Donald Tusk, in his inaugural speech during the Polish Presidency of the European Union in the European Parliament, emphasized the need to build a strong economy based on digital innovations and AI as the foundation of Poland's competitiveness in the 21st century. The Pomeranian Coalition for AI Industry and DPC is the answer to this challenge.
The role of the Baltic Sea in the Energy and Digital Transformation
One of the key pillars of the Pomeranian Coalition for AI Industry and DPC is the use of energy generated by offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea to power the emerging industry of the future with green energy. Thanks to renewable energy sources and modern systems for stabilizing green energy supplies, Pomerania has a unique chance to become a leader in the European digital transformation, and the Baltic Sea – a driving force in the development of the competitiveness of the EU economy. The combination of modern energy infrastructure with the dynamically developing AI and DPC sector creates a unique opportunity to build a strong, sustainable economy that will be a driving force for innovation in Europe.
The Role of Energa SA in the Digital Transformation
The basis for the development of AI and DPS is stable and green energy. Paweł Olechnowicz, head of the "Pomeranian Energy Hub" Working Group of the Economic Advisory Team at the Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology, emphasized the importance of stable access to renewable energy sources as a key factor for success.
– Digital and energy transformation must go hand in hand. Energa SA, as a leader in the energy sector in Pomerania, is taking action to provide reliable and sustainable energy for the growing AI and DPC sector. Without access to green energy, Poland will not become a competitive player in the global technology and services market – said Sławomir Staszak, President of the Management Board of Energa SA.
Key goals of the Coalition
Three main pillars of the Coalition's activities were defined during the meeting:
- Building modern DPC infrastructure – support for investments in data centers using renewable energy sources.
- Cooperation between science, business and administration – development of digital competences and innovations in the AI sector.
- Increasing Poland's competitiveness – attracting global investments to Pomerania as a European hub for AI and DPC technologies.
– As Gdańsk University of Technology, we consistently engage in projects that respond to the key development challenges of Pomerania. Both the Pomeranian Coalition for the Development of the Data Processing and AI Industry and the activities of the Economic Advisory Team at the Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology, established last year, have a common goal – building a strong, modern economy based on knowledge, technology and innovation. Combining scientific, business and administrative potential gives us a unique opportunity to create an ecosystem in the region that will drive digitization, green transformation and the development of key sectors such as offshore or maritime logistics. I am glad that our university is co-creating these activities – summed up Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology.
The meeting ended with the agreement on the principles of cooperation between the participants, which will be the first step towards implementing the ambitious strategy for the digitization of Pomerania and Poland as a whole.
