Gdańsk Tech among the top European technical universities – EngiRank 2025 results

Engirank
On 1 December 2025, the results of the third edition of the European technical university ranking were published. The Gdańsk University of Technology once again confirmed its strong position, ranking second nationally for the third time in a row, jointly with the Silesian University of Technology, and 67th in Europe.

Switzerland, Norway, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Ukraine, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In addition to traditional indicators such as publications and citations, EngiRank's methodology takes into account the following: cooperation with industry, joint research with business, patents, contribution to the implementation of sustainable development goals, participation in EU programmes (Horizon and Erasmus+ European Universities), and engineering accreditations (ENAEE, ABET). The data for the ranking comes from the Scopus Elsevier database, the European Patent Office PATSTAT, Horizon Europe and accreditation organizations for engineering programs (ABET, ENAEE). The ranking assesses universities from countries with similar legal and cultural conditions, involved in joint research programmes (European Research Council) and academic cooperation initiatives (European universities).

It is worth noting that the Gdańsk University of Technology ranked first in Poland as regards the indicator, which assesses:

  • the number of publications by a given university in the field of engineering and technology (FORD classification) in the Scopus database in 2020–2024;
  • the percentage of the university’s publications published in the top 10% journals according to CiteScore in the field of engineering and technology between 2020 and 2024;
  • the ratio of the number of citations received by the university's publications in the field of engineering and technology from 2020-2024 to the number of publications indexed in the Scopus database;
  • the ratio of the field-weighted citation impact (FWCI) of the institution's publications in the field of engineering and technology in 2020-2024 to the FWCI of its publications in 2015-2019 in the same field.

In addition to the overall ranking, EngiRank also publishes seven subject-specific rankings. The Gdańsk University of Technology was included in all of them, with the following positions:

  • Civil Engineering – 56th
  • Medical Engineering – 73rd
  • Mechanical Engineering – 95th
  • Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering – 96th
  • Chemical Engineering – 105th
  • Environmental Engineering – 113th
  • Materials Engineering – 125th
