During the 17th Pomeranian Sailing Gala, the Gdańsk University of Technology was honoured with the ‘Friend of Pomeranian Sailing’ title. The Crystal Sails Award statuette was received on behalf of the academic community by Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology. This award is a token of appreciation for the close cooperation between the university and the Pomeranian Sailing Association, as well as for the support that Gdańsk Tech provides to Pomeranian sailors.

The gala, traditionally organised by the Pomeranian Sailing Association, brought together the most important figures in the region's sailing world. Among the winners was the Gdańsk University of Technology, which has been actively involved in the development of maritime culture for years, combining science with sport and recreation, and developing a sailing marina in Sobieszewo. The full list of winners is available in detailed coverage.

Science in the service of the seas and sails

The ‘Friend of Pomeranian Sailing’ title emphasises the role that the university plays in the region's maritime ecosystem. This includes not only educating engineers and developing under the Maritime Gdańsk Tech programme, but also providing real support for sailing initiatives and openness to cooperation with the maritime community.

“The ‘Friend of Pomeranian Sailing’ title confirms that the Gdańsk University of Technology has chosen the right course. For us, the sea is a strategic resource, both in terms of research, for example, through the development of offshore technology, and in social terms. Investing in infrastructure development will allow us to maintain high sailing achievements in the future,” emphasised Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech. “The Gdańsk University of Technology is and will remain a university open to the sea. We are delighted to be able to support the passions of our students and staff, and this statuette confirms that our cooperation with the Pomeranian Sailing Association brings measurable benefits to the entire region.”

A golden year for Gdańsk Tech AZS sailors

The Rector's acceptance of the award coincided with the conclusion of an exceptionally successful sporting season. The year 2025 was a success story for the Sailing Section of Gdańsk Tech AZS (Academic Sports Association), which confirmed its dominance on academic waters.

Gdańsk Tech students proved that they are unrivalled in sailing, triumphing in the most important events of the season:

  • Dominance at the Polish Academic Championships: The Gdańsk Tech team won the general classification at the 2025 Polish Academic Championships, winning gold both among technical universities and in the overall classification of all universities in Poland.
  • Championship in the Omega class: During the regatta in Wilkasy, the crew led by helmswoman Agnieszka Pawłowska won the championship title in the helmsman classification.
  • Gdańsk Tech Racing achievements: The regatta team led by Patryk Kosmalski won the title of Polish Youth Club Champions, confirming that sailing training at Gdańsk Tech represents the highest standard.

The Crystal Sails Award for the Gdańsk University of Technology proves that this technical university successfully combines its scientific mission with its role as a patron of sports and an active participant in maritime life in Pomerania.
