HPC, cloud computing, and quantum technologies – these areas will be developed as part of projects that received funding from the European Funds for the Modern Economy 2021–2027 program. CI TASK is a consortium partner in these projects.

The funding was awarded in the call “Research Infrastructure of the Modern Economy – Path for projects on the Polish Map of Research Infrastructure”, conducted by the National Information Processing Institute – National Research Institute (OPI PIB), acting as the Intermediate Body in Priority II of the FENG programme.

In the completed call, 8 projects were selected for funding, with a total amount exceeding PLN 814 million. Among them were three initiatives implemented with the participation of CI TASK: AQUILA, PLGrid EOSC HUB, and PRACE-LAB3.

AQUILA – supercomputers and quantum technologies

The AQUILA project focuses on the development of advanced supercomputing infrastructure and new computational capabilities related to quantum technologies. The project’s implementation will enable further strengthening of the national potential for the most demanding computations, as well as the development of an environment integrating classical HPC resources with new computing technologies. For CI TASK, participation in the project represents the next stage in the development of competencies in the field of high-performance computing and future technologies.

PLGrid EOSC HUB – cloud computing and EOSC

The PLGrid EOSC HUB project is associated with the development of national cloud infrastructure and digital services available to the scientific community. Its implementation will allow the development of a federated cloud environment and increase access to modern computational resources and services integrated with the European Open Science Cloud ecosystem. This is a particularly important area for CI TASK, which for years has been developing competencies related to the TASKcloud cloud, containerization, data processing, and the construction of advanced digital services.

PRACE-LAB3 – development of advanced HPC computing

PRACE-LAB3 is the next stage in the development of national high-performance computing infrastructure. The project will support the development of resources necessary to carry out the most demanding scientific research and R&D work, utilizing large computing power and advanced data processing environments. Through participation in PRACE-LAB3, CI TASK continues the development of infrastructure and competencies related to HPC and strengthens its role in the national ecosystem of advanced computing.

CI TASK’s participation in the three funded projects demonstrates the scale and diversity of competencies developed by the Centre. HPC, cloud computing, and quantum technologies are elements of an increasingly integrated digital infrastructure.
