Gdańsk Tech the Best Polish University in the UI GreenMetric 2026 Ranking
Gdańsk Tech ranked 227th worldwide and once again was the highest-ranked Polish university in the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings 2026. In this year's edition of the ranking, 2016 universities from around the world were evaluated.

The activities of Gdańsk Tech in the areas of education and research were particularly highly rated. Gdańsk Tech received the maximum number of points in the Education and Research category, which includes factors such as incorporating sustainable development issues into study programs and scientific research, building ecological awareness, and sharing knowledge with the community.
The university also achieved a very good result in the new category Governance and Digitalization, scoring 94 percent of the possible points. This category evaluates organizational solutions supporting the implementation of sustainable development principles, the use of digital tools, and the transparency in communicating the university’s strategy and progress.
New Ranking Methodology
The 2026 edition brought significant changes to the ranking methodology. The organizers introduced new questions, modified the scoring in existing areas, and added a seventh category – Governance and Digitalization. The name of the ranking was also changed – UI GreenMetric World University Rankings now operates as UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings (UIGM SUR).
Universities were assessed in seven areas: campus and infrastructure, energy and climate change mitigation, waste management, water management, transportation, education and research, and governance and digitalization.
Gdańsk Tech the Leader in Poland
Gdańsk Tech maintained its position as the highest-ranked Polish university in UI GreenMetric. In the global ranking, it was placed 227th, compared to 130th position in 2025.
The change in ranking position was influenced by the new ranking methodology and the increasing number of participating universities. This year’s edition classified 2,016 higher education institutions – 271 more than the previous year.
