Our PhD Student Receives IEEE IES-SYPA Award at IECON 2026
Shahal Ibn Islam Joy, a doctoral student at the Doctoral School of Gdańsk University of Technology, received an award through the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society's Students and Young Professionals Paper Assistance (IES-SYPA) programme at the 52nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IECON 2026), held in Doha, Qatar, from 18 to 21 October 2026.
The award is associated with the research paper Different Approaches to Optimal Flux Selection for Wide-Speed-Range SynRM Drives, co-authored by Shahal. The research investigates methods for optimal magnetic flux selection in synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) drives operating over a wide speed range. The proposed approaches enable online flux optimization under varying speed and load conditions. The results demonstrate reduced stator current magnitude and excitation level while maintaining satisfactory dynamic performance.
Shahal conducts his research at the Department of Electric Drives and Energy Conversion, Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering, Gdańsk University of Technology, under the supervision of Prof. Marcin Morawiec.
The IES-SYPA initiative is a competitive programme established by the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society to support students and young professionals in attending international scientific conferences. Recipients are selected based on evaluations of their submitted research papers and accompanying video presentations.
Congratulations to Shahal on this achievement! We wish him continued success in his research career.
