Gdańsk University of Technology proudly announces the launch of the ENHANCE Research Internship Programme, offering PhD students / candidates an exceptional opportunity to engage in international research stays at leading European universities.

Programme Overview

The internship programme aims to strengthen research-based education, foster academic mobility, and enhance collaboration within the ENHANCE Alliance, which includes: · Chalmers Tekniska Högskola AB · Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich · Norges Teknisk-Naturvitenskapelige Universitet · Politecnico di Milano · Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen · Technische Universität Berlin · Technische Universiteit Delft · Universitat Politècnica de València

The programme offers three-month outbound and inbound research opportunities:

· 1 PhD student from Gdańsk University of Technology (outgoing mobility)

· 3 PhD students / candidates from partner universities (incoming mobility to Gdańsk Tech)

Internship participation requires maintaining student or PhD candidate status and compliance with all legal and academic requirements of the host university.

Who Can Apply?
  • 3 PhD students / candidates from:
    Chalmers, TU Berlin, NTNU, RWTH Aachen, UPV, ETH Zurich, PoliMi, TU Delft
    (incoming mobility to Gdańsk University of Technology)
  • 1 PhD student from Gdańsk University of Technology
    (outgoing mobility to one of the partner universities listed above)
Role of the Mentor

Each intern works under the guidance of two academic mentors — one from the home institution and one from the host university. Mentors are responsible for:

· Supporting the student in preparing the Internship Proposal, including research goals and methodology

· Endorsing the proposal as an academic supervisor

· Providing research guidance during the internship period

· Reviewing and commenting on the final evaluation report

Mentors play a key role in supporting academic quality, fostering cross-institution collaboration, and ensuring alignment of the project with the student’s research goals. The list of mentors from Gdańsk Tech is available here.

Application Process

Applicants must prepare a research proposal including:

1. Research topic justification

2. Research goals / hypotheses

3. Methodological framework

4. Potential research impact

5. Expected learning outcomes

6. Justification of mentor selection

Project Preparation Options

Joint development and approval — in cooperation with a mentor from the home institution and a mentor from the host university.

Preparation with a home-institution mentor — followed by review and approval by a mentor from the host university.

Due to high interest, the number of applications may exceed available placements. Proposals will be evaluated by the ENHANCE Research Internship Committee based on a transparent ranking process. Successful participants will receive funding and, upon completion, a certificate confirming the acquired learning outcomes.


📅 Key Dates

· Application period: 19 December 2025 – 15 February 2026

· Ranking publication: 21 February 2026

· Appeal period: 7 days from ranking announcement

· Internship period: 1 April 2026 — 31 August 2026

Reporting & Completion

Interns must submit a final post-stay report summarising research outcomes, acquired skills, and expected impact. A positive evaluation results in a completion certificate.

Funding & Mobility

Each internship includes a financial grant. Grant amounts depend on the host university and participant status (PhD). Details are provided in the ENHANCE Research Internship Programme Regulations.
