Inauguration of the Economic Council at the Rector of Gdańsk Tech
The Economic Council at the Rector of Gdańsk Tech – a platform for cooperation between the academic and economic communities – has commenced its activities. The inaugural meeting of the council, composed of several dozen representatives from companies and institutions of the Coast, took place on September 11 in the Fahrenheit Courtyard of the Main Building of Gdańsk Tech. During the meeting, membership nominations were awarded and the chairperson was elected.

The Economic Convention at the Rector of Gdańsk Tech is intended to serve as a platform for the exchange of information, consultations, and the expression of opinions and positions between the academic community of Gdańsk Tech and the economic environment on all matters affecting the economic development of the country and the region, including, among others, the prospective needs of employers and the labor market, cooperation of the university with state and local government authorities, and other entities.
In the previous term of Gdańsk Tech authorities (since 2016), the platform for cooperation and exchange of views between the university and the economic environment was the activity of the Economic Convention of Gdańsk Tech, an advisory body to the rector, established under the Act of 27 July 2005 “Law on Higher Education.” The Convention undertook initiatives related to the development of the Lower Vistula and the post-shipyard areas of Gdańsk, known as the Young City, which also involved representatives of state administration and local authorities. The convention, which operated until 2018 (the new Act “Law on Higher Education and Science” of 20 July 2018 established a body with different competencies – the University Council), actively participated in building mutual relations between the university and its environment, as well as the development of Gdańsk Tech’s activities for the economy and the Pomeranian community. Therefore, many individuals from the economic sector approached the rector of Gdańsk Tech with proposals to continue the work under a different legal formula. On 15 January 2020, the Senate of Gdańsk Tech gave a positive opinion on the creation of the Economic Convention at the Rector of Gdańsk Tech.
