By the decision of the Rector, Gdańsk Tech will launch the acceleration program “Start-up School,” supporting entrepreneurship among students and university staff. Teams that successfully complete the training program will have a chance to receive a grant of PLN 50,000. These funds can be used for pre-implementation work or preparations for establishing a company.

The aim of establishing the acceleration program is to support academic entrepreneurship and provide substantive preparation for teams composed of students or employees of Gdańsk Tech to establish their own spin-off/spin-out companies.

Currently, a plan of comprehensive activities and a space where workshops, consultations with mentors, and project meetings of teams participating in the training program can take place is being prepared.

– The location where activities focused around the “Start-up School” will ultimately be carried out is on the ground floor of Student Dormitory No. 3, at ul. Do Studzienki. These premises were previously used by the Academic Incubators of Entrepreneurship Foundation – explains Damian Kuźniewski, Director of the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Center, the unit responsible at the university for implementing the program.

According to the assumptions, two types of activities will be implemented under the program: ongoing advisory services for students along with regular business skills workshops, and the main acceleration program, which includes three training cycles per year. A single training cycle will last about 10 weeks.

– Recruitment will be conducted competitively, and for each intake we plan to recruit up to a maximum of 10 teams. A team interested in participating in the program should convincingly present its project vision, on the basis of which they would later like to establish a company. One of the main evaluation criteria will be the innovativeness and feasibility of the project, and ideas based on the results of research conducted by the creators’ teams will certainly be favored – explains Damian Kuźniewski.

Teams that successfully complete the acceleration program in a given intake will have the chance to receive a grant of PLN 50,000, which can be used for pre-implementation work or necessary preparations for establishing a company. The first activities of the Start-up School will begin in the spring of this year.
