Gdańsk Tech has signed a cooperation agreement with Carrier Fire & Security Polska, a company that is part of the global Carrier group. The agreement opens opportunities for interdisciplinary research collaboration and commercialization.
Carrier is a leading global provider of safe, sustainable, and intelligent solutions for building control and automation as well as the cold chain. The Gdańsk branch of Carrier manages a research and development laboratory, which houses an Innovation Incubator called "Carrier i3 Labs," where the company systematically develops and tests proprietary solutions.
– Carrier has over a century-long tradition of implementing innovative solutions. We create products based on innovations developed in our R&D centers. In our Gdańsk branch, we operate in the spirit of an innovation culture. This is recognized throughout the organization and resulted in the opening of the first corporate incubator here in 2022. Collaboration with Gdańsk Tech, the leading technical university in the region, is particularly important to us; we see many areas that we can develop with the strong support of the university’s research staff – comments Maciej Sobczyk, Director of the Carrier R&D Center in Gdańsk.
The parties of the agreement signed the contract on March 14, 2023. The signatories of the document were: Prof. Janusz Nieznański, Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Innovation at Gdańsk Tech, Maciej Sobczyk, Director of the Carrier R&D Center, and Marcin Ciszewski, Senior HR Manager Carrier Poland and EMEA. The agreement was also initialed by the deans of three Gdańsk Tech faculties present at the meeting.
The signed agreement paves the way for cooperation between the company and Gdańsk Tech employees in research and development work in areas such as sustainable development, circular economy, CO2 reduction, and emission neutrality in the context of building solutions and fire protection solutions developed by Carrier.
The preparation of the agreement on the University side was substantively overseen by Agnieszka Kania, Innovation Broker from the Technology Transfer Center, while on the Company’s side it was coordinated by Mateusz Mazur, Chief Engineer at Carrier F&S.
– During discussions held while preparing the agreement, we and Carrier identified interdisciplinary cooperation areas that open possibilities for scientific work to be carried out by cross-departmental scientific teams from Gdańsk Tech. The concluded agreement is an opportunity not only for acquiring new, interesting R&D projects and commissioned research but also for implementation doctoral theses at the Doctoral School of Implementation operating at Gdańsk Tech. The first talks between potential doctoral candidates from the Company and supervisors from the faculties of ETI, EiA, and WIMiO are planned for March – explains Agnieszka Kania.
Also participating in the meeting were Prof. Jacek Stefański, Dean of WETI, Prof. Mirosław Wołoszyn, Dean of EiA, Prof. Marek Olesz, Vice-Dean for Development of EiA, Prof. Jacek Kropwinicki, Vice-Dean for Development of WIMiO, and Damian Kuźniewski, Director of the Technology Transfer Center at Gdańsk Tech.
