Last weekend, the 11th Polish Higher Education Employees Volleyball Championship took place at the Sport Bay of the Lodz University of Technology. Our university was represented, as every year, by two teams: OPEN and 50+. For the first time in history, the former won the title of Polish Champion. The second team also returned with success. Bronze medals were awarded to the 50+ players.

In the OPEN category during the group stage, the Gdańsk Tech team played three matches, winning two of them. Our team defeated Jagiellonian University 2-0 and the Cracow University of Economics 2-0, and also lost to Poznań University of Technology 0-2. Advancing from first place in the group, in the quarterfinals the Gdańsk Tech representatives faced Wrocław University of Science and Technology and won 2-1.

The most thrilling match was the semifinal against Rzeszów University of Technology. Despite losing the first set, the Gdańsk Tech team recovered and not only tied the score at 1-1 but also outperformed their opponents in the tie-break, winning 15-10. In the final, the Gdańsk Tech team avenged their group stage loss by defeating Poznań University of Technology 2-0, thus becoming the Polish Champions.

In the 50+ category, the Gdańsk Tech team started the tournament with a loss against AGH University of Science and Technology 0-2, followed by two victories – against Łódź University of Technology 2-0 and Koszalin University of Technology 2-0 – and advanced to the semifinals in second place.
