Gdańsk Tech took 2nd place in the overall ranking of the 2026 Academic Polish Championships. After six historic consecutive victories, Gdańsk Tech representatives once again stood on the podium of the most important academic sports competition in Poland. The university scored 2028 points, falling short of the winning University of Warsaw by only 8 points.

After six years of dominance and consecutive championship titles, Gdańsk Tech maintained its position in the top tier of the general AMP classification, finishing 2nd in the country. The University of Warsaw won with a total of 2036 points. The third place was taken by the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, ending the competition with 1971 points.

Gdańsk Tech also secured 3rd place in the medal classification, winning a total of 46 medals: 16 gold, 13 silver, and 17 bronze. Only the Jerzy Kukuczka Academy of Physical Education in Katowice and the University of Warsaw had a better medal count.

– We welcome the result achieved by the Gdańsk Tech team in this year's Academic Polish Championships with great satisfaction and pride. After a historic and record-breaking six consecutive overall victories, we took 2nd place, уступая только University of Warsaw, with whom we fought until the last competition of this year. We know how demanding this competition is and how difficult it is to maintain a place among the top academic sports teams in Poland over the years. Therefore, every subsequent podium finish is regarded as a very important achievement, confirming the consistent work of students, coaches, and the Gdańsk Tech Academic Sports Center – says Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech.

Wide representation, consistent scoring

The 43rd Polish Academic Championships, held in the academic year 2025/2026, included 48 disciplines. At least one competition in this year's series was attended by 130 universities from across the country. The teams from Gdańsk Tech competed for another year in all possible disciplines, including kickboxing, which made its debut in the Polish Academic Championships series. Only Jagiellonian University in Kraków can boast a similar achievement.

This is particularly important because the overall ranking in the Polish Academic Championships is determined not only by the number of medals but also by consistent scoring across many disciplines. The final university result includes the sum of the 30 best scoring results achieved throughout the cycle. The breadth of representation has been one of the greatest strengths of Gdańsk Tech for years.

In this year’s edition of the Polish Academic Championships, representatives of Gdańsk Tech won a total of 16 medals in the overall classification and 30 medals in the technical universities classification. The technical universities classification is a separate ranking conducted within the Polish Academic Championships for institutions of this type.

In the overall classification, Gdańsk Tech teams stood on the top podium in women’s and men’s cross-country running, shooting, and women’s and men’s tennis. Silver medals were won by the teams in sports aerobics, badminton, women’s and men’s athletics, rowing, sailing, and rowing ergometer. Bronze medals were claimed by Gdańsk Tech representatives in karate, kickboxing, basketball, and table tennis.

– The Academic Championships of Poland reward not only individual medals but also the breadth and consistency of the entire team. It is precisely in this aspect that Gdańsk Tech has been demonstrating its strength for years. We have disciplines in which our students are among the national leaders, including team sports, athletics, and sailing. It is also important that more and more people at the university treat physical activity as a natural part of academic life. Such broad engagement later leads to sporting successes – emphasizes the Rector of Gdańsk Tech.

New Hall as the Next Step in the Development of Academic Sports

This year's result in the Academic Sports Championships is yet another confirmation that academic sports at Gdańsk Tech are developing based on the commitment of students, the work of coaches, and broad representation across many disciplines. The university aims to strengthen this potential also through investments in sports infrastructure.

One of the most important goals in this area is the construction of a new multi-purpose sports hall on the grounds of the Gdańsk Tech Academic Sports Center. The facility is intended to serve students, employees, residents of Gdańsk, and local sports clubs, which is described in more detail in the separate announcement.

– We want the new hall to increase the availability of sports classes, improve the training conditions for our teams, and allow for the organization of sports events on campus on a much larger scale. We see this investment as a natural next step. Since Gdańsk Tech has been among the best universities in Poland in the Academic Championships of Poland for years, we need infrastructure that matches the sporting ambitions of our community. This is an investment in results, but above all in daily activity, health, and the integration of our academic community – adds Prof. Krzysztof Wilde.

Gdańsk Tech congratulates all female and male athletes, as well as coaches and the Academic Sports Center of Gdańsk Tech for their commitment, hard work, and a very successful season in the Academic Polish Championships.
