Gdańsk Tech will cooperate with ORLEN S.A., Crist Shipyard, Lyten Poland, and the Pomeranian Voivodeship Government in the development of solutions supporting the energy transformation of Pomerania. The partners signed a letter of intent regarding the establishment of the Pomeranian Innovation and Energy Development Zone.

The initiative aims to combine the potential of science, industry, energy, and local government in working on modern technologies for the energy sector. The goal of the collaboration will include, among others, the analysis of the possibility of creating a pilot research and development project that allows for the design, testing, and implementation of innovative solutions in the field of energy.

The partners also want to strengthen the participation of Polish companies in the strategic energy projects of the ORLEN Group and develop Pomerania as a regional center for energy transformation and new technologies.

– The aim of this cooperation is to develop innovative solutions for the energy sector, build a platform connecting science and industry, and strengthen the participation of Polish companies in strategic energy projects. Scientists from Gdańsk Tech will be involved in the project, bringing the university's expertise in the fields of energy, digitization, and new technologies. I believe that joint efforts will strengthen the position of Pomerania as a center of modern energy and innovation – says Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech.

New Solutions for Industry and Energy

The Pomeranian Innovation and Energy Development Zone is intended to be a space for developing and testing solutions that could support stable, efficient, and more flexible energy management in the future. Among the technologies being considered are energy storage systems and their applications in industrial environments.

Such solutions may help companies better plan energy consumption, increase process efficiency, and reduce the impact of energy price fluctuations on industrial operations in the future. This is particularly important for large manufacturing plants for which the stability of supply and energy costs directly affect competitiveness.

The initiative is part of a broader energy transition process in the Pomerania region. The region is developing renewable energy sources, including onshore and offshore wind power. Increasingly important will be not only energy generation itself but also its storage, digital flow management, and balancing of production and consumption.

The Role of Gdańsk Tech

Gdańsk Tech will contribute research and expert competencies in the fields of energy, digitalization, and new technologies. The university will support partners in analyzing, testing, and implementing solutions that can be applied in industry, energy, transport, and the regional economy.

Joint efforts are aimed at ensuring that the energy transition is not only a technological and environmental process but also a development stimulus for companies, new investments, and the entire Pomeranian economy. This means creating solutions that can support industrial competitiveness, strengthen the region’s energy security, and facilitate the implementation of new technologies.
