World Experts in Quantum Dynamics at Gdańsk Tech
From 22 to 26 June 2026, Gdańsk Tech will host the 18th Quantum Reactive Scattering Workshop – an international conference dedicated to the quantum description of molecular collisions, mechanisms of chemical reactions, and the latest methods in physics and computational chemistry. For the first time in the history of the QRS series, the event will take place in Poland.
The 18th Quantum Reactive Scattering Workshop, abbreviated as QRS 2026, brings together outstanding scientists in Gdańsk representing leading universities and research institutes from Europe, North America, and Asia. Among the confirmed speakers are world-renowned specialists in quantum dynamics, theoretical chemistry, and molecular spectroscopy, including David C. Clary from the University of Oxford, Anna I. Krylov from the University of Southern California, Jonathan Connor from the University of Manchester, and Roland Wester from the University of Innsbruck.
Chemical Reactions Observed from the Perspective of Quantum Mechanics
During QRS 2026, scientists will discuss how to describe collisions of atoms and molecules and the course of chemical reactions using the laws of quantum mechanics. These studies allow for a better understanding of the most fundamental processes occurring in matter—from energy transfer between molecules to the formation and breaking of chemical bonds.
The conference program includes topics related to quantum reactive and non-reactive scattering, electronic structure of molecules, potential energy surfaces, photochemical processes, reaction control by light, chemistry at ultralow temperatures, atmospheric and interstellar medium processes, and the use of modern numerical algorithms and machine learning in molecular research.
Although the event’s theme primarily concerns fundamental sciences, the methods developed in this field find applications in the design of new materials, nanotechnology, energy, catalysis, photonics, environmental protection, atmospheric research, and astrochemistry.
A Prestigious Conference Series Held in Poland for the First Time
The history of the Quantum Reactive Scattering Workshop dates back to 1990, when the series was initiated by Prof. David Clary. Since then, QRS has become an important forum for knowledge exchange within the international community engaged in molecular dynamics and computational descriptions of chemical reactions.
The Gdańsk edition is the eighteenth in the series and the first organized in Poland. The selection of Gdańsk Tech as the host of the conference confirms the growing position of the University in the fields of physical sciences, quantum chemistry, mathematical modeling, and advanced computational methods.
Science, Collaboration, and Development of Young Researchers
The QRS 2026 program will include invited lectures, participant presentations, young researchers’ talks, a poster session, and discussions dedicated to the latest research challenges. An important aim of the conference is to initiate collaboration between teams from different countries, create new scientific partnerships, and prepare joint projects and publications.
The participation of PhD students and young researchers enables them to present the results of their own work, receive feedback from renowned experts, and establish contacts important for their further scientific careers. The conference is also an opportunity to showcase to international guests the research potential, infrastructure, and achievements of Gdańsk Tech.
The conference takes place at the Nanotechnology Center A of Gdańsk Tech. It is organized by Gdańsk Tech and Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. The event is prepared by an international and inter-university organizing committee, co-chaired by PhD Eng. Patryk Jasik from the Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics at Gdańsk Tech and PhD Dariusz Kędziera from the Faculty of Chemistry at Nicolaus Copernicus University.
