Gdańsk Tech awarded for its result in THE World University Ranking
The event was part of the two-day LUMEN 2022 Conference organised by the Times Higher Education publishing house, the Polish Rectors Foundation and PCG Academia. The conference was attended by the heads of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP), the General Council for Science and Higher Education (GCNiSW), the Commission for the Evaluation of Science (KEN) and the Foundation for Polish Science, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science and numerous representatives of Polish univeristies.
The LUMEN 2022 conference was filled with high-quality, substantive presentations in the area of professional management of higher education. The panellists discussed the new landscape of Polish science and the conclusions from the completed evaluation of scientific activity, management of the digital university from the perspective of the State and the university, internationalisation, EU funds for higher education institutions and technologies supporting universities in managing science, teaching and administrative processes.
Of particular interest was a debate presenting the detailed results of the ranking presented by representatives of Times Higer Education. After discussing the results from a global, European and Polish perspective, the presentation of awards to the winners proceeded. On behalf of the Gdansk University of Technology, the award was presented to Dr Kajetan Lewandowski from the Centre for Strategic Analysis.
It should be recalled that the Gdansk University of Technology was ranked among the top ten universities in Poland, between 1201st and 1500th place. Technical universities such as AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków or Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice were placed in the same bracket of the global ranking. In the classification of our University, the highest ranking was given to the criterion 'Industry income', calculated as the ratio of industry income to the number of academic staff.
The ranking is created on the basis of 5 pillars, each representing a key area of excellence in higher education: teaching, research, citations, industry income and international perspectives.
This year's edition ranked almost 1,800 universities from 104 countries, including 32 from Poland. for the 2023 edition, more than 121 million citations from over 15.5 million research publications were analysed and survey responses from 40,000 researchers worldwide were included.
