Success in GreenMetrics World University Ranking
In the latest edition of the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, Gdańsk Tech was ranked 1st among Polish universities. Globally, PG was ranked 137th out of 1050 universities from 85 countries. The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings examine universities' involvement in environmental issues (including infrastructure, climate and environmental care, transportation, water and electricity consumption or waste management).
The creators of the ranking want to gain a picture of how a university is responding to or dealing with sustainability issues through policies, actions and communications. The leaders of the ranking this year were Wageningen University (the Netherlands) and 2 universities from Nottingham: Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham.
Our university achieved the highest marks nationally in fields of infrastructure, energy, transportation, and education and research. This is in recognition of such pro-environmental activities of the university as the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, green projects submitted as part of the Civic Budget, or investments such as the Eco-Innovation Center. It is also worth noting that our University has a Climate Action Plan, which defines the University's goals and actions for raising social well-being and sustainability of the Earth's ecosystem, as well as the axiological basis for these actions.
Since the ranking takes into account such criteria as the involvement of student organizations or the number of electric vehicles used by employees, it should be pointed out that the good result of Gdańsk Tech is the result of the involvement of our entire community in environmental and sustainability issues.
