Representatives of the military, academia, and industry, the three natural stakeholders in the military equipment procurement planning process, met at Gdańsk Tech.
In December 2021, the Center for Military Maritime Technologies at Gdańsk Tech signed so-called confidentiality agreements with the Polish Armaments Group and PGZ Naval Shipyard, which enabled the commencement of talks regarding the development of technologies for minimizing the physical signatures of ships and unmanned underwater vehicles for the benefit of the Polish Navy.
The meeting, held on Monday, January 17, with the participation of representatives from PGZ S.A., PGZ SW Sp. z o.o., and several institutions of the Ministry of National Defence, was a consequence of the aforementioned agreements and aimed to intensify the work of Gdańsk Tech researchers on projects related to national defense.
– For many years, we have cooperated in this area with the Polish Navy and the Polish Armaments Group, but until now, meetings with representatives from the military and the industry were held separately. Today, we all managed to meet in one place, at Gdańsk Tech – said Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech. – I hope this will not be the last meeting of this kind. Our university is strongly committed to actively supporting the development of the Polish defense industry – he added.
– Gdańsk Tech, and especially the people working here, who have long been engaged in the development of maritime technology, have repeatedly demonstrated how valuable a resource they are for building the capability of the Armed Forces. We are convinced that the experience gained so far, among others, through projects such as Ukwiał, Morświn, and Głuptak, will result in future innovative solutions enhancing the combat capabilities of the Polish Navy, especially when these solutions are the outcome of close cooperation between science and industry – stated Commander Piotr Skóra, Head of Maritime Technology Department at the Armaments Agency.
– I am pleased with the opportunity to meet in such a broad and significant group. Considering the growing importance of unmanned maritime vehicles used for both civilian and military tasks, the Polish Armaments Group and companies within the PGZ group, as well as Gdańsk Tech, are very interested in developing existing technologies and creating new ones based on domestic research and development potential – said Przemysław Romaszkiewicz, Director of the Maritime Projects Office at PGZ S.A.
The consortium of PGZ SA and PGZ SW currently implements a number of projects related to the construction, repair, and modernization of ships for the Polish Navy and allied formations. In July 2021, an agreement was signed for the delivery of three new-type surface vessels for the Polish Navy under the "Miecznik" program, a key modernization program of the naval component of the Polish Armed Forces. The report on the December signing of the agreement with Gdańsk Tech can be read HERE.
