Planting fruit trees, water dispensers, flower meadows, and photovoltaic installations. These are some of the projects that Gdańsk Tech students and staff have chosen to implement in previous years as part of the Civic Budget. What ideas will emerge this year? We will find out soon. From today until November 7th, you can submit your proposals. Don’t wait – take action!

“My idea, my voice – a benefit for all” – this is the slogan driving the Gdańsk Tech Participatory Budget initiative. Now is the time to share your ideas for changes on the Gdańsk Tech campus. Starting Monday, October 24, project proposals for this year’s edition of BOPG are being accepted. Think about what should be done on campus, put your idea on paper, and submit your project. Don’t wait – submissions are only accepted until November 7!

For inspiration, it’s worth visiting the Gdańsk Tech Participatory Budget website. There you will find not only the regulations for this year’s edition, its schedule and template form to fill in, but also descriptions of projects that won in previous years.

Last week, a project to plant fruit trees was completed on the campus. Following horticultural best practices, they are planted in autumn. The trees were planted behind building B of the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics. Here you will find a magnolia, two types of apple trees, a cherry tree, and pear trees. The plantings were carried out by the Horticultural Section of the Logistics Centre in cooperation with the “KOS” Gardening Science Club.

Another BOPG project that can be cited as an example of implementing winning ideas is the flower meadows. One – wild and friendly to pollinating insects – is located at the back of the Faculty of Chemistry. The second is on the square in front of the WETI B building. The Gdańsk Tech Participatory Budget also transforms the interiors of university buildings. Thanks to the activity of the academic community, the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics and the Academic Sports Center have gained drinking water dispensers.

All winning projects can be conveniently explored using the project implementation map. Ideas from previous years may inspire future projects. In turn, descriptions of individual projects will certainly facilitate the later completion of the submission form.

As in previous years, 500 thousand PLN has been allocated for distribution in the Gdańsk Tech Participatory Budget, divided between employee projects (350 thousand PLN) and student projects (150 thousand PLN). These funds can be used for various implementations. A novelty this year is the university’s focus on green, environmentally friendly projects. At least one of the selected ideas must align with the goals defined in the Gdańsk Tech Climate Plan. According to its provisions, the university will undertake actions related to reducing CO2 emissions, limiting waste production, utilizing natural resources and energy, as well as developing green areas and biodiversity on campus.

Ideas can be submitted for two weeks – from Monday, October 24, starting at 9:00 AM until November 7 at 12:00 PM. The form is available on the website www.pg.edu.pl/budzet_obywatelski. Submitted projects will then undergo a verification process. Those that pass will participate in voting by employees and students. The academic community will select projects to be implemented. Voting is scheduled for November 28 to December 5. The final list of projects forwarded for implementation will be announced on January 5, 2023.
