Summary of PhD Open 2025
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Gdańsk Tech authorities: Rector Professor Krzysztof Wilde, Vice-Rectors, Professor Robert Jankowski, Director of the Doctoral School, Professor Ewa Klugmann-Radziemska, Director of the Implementation Doctoral School, as well as Aleksandra Ławniczak, Chair of the Gdańsk Tech Doctoral Student Council. The event also brought together academic teachers and doctoral candidates. The musical setting was provided by the Gdańsk Tech Academic Choir, conducted by Professor Mariusz Mróz.
The official inauguration began with an address by Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, who emphasized that the doctoral period marks a transition from acquiring knowledge to co-creating it. He encouraged young researchers to view their work as a contribution to the country’s development and to building its technological independence. The Rector reminded attendees that doctoral candidates and young scientists represent the future of Polish science, and their work is essential for creating new solutions and innovations.
Following the inauguration, participants listened to a lecture by Professor UMK Dominik Antonowicz, entitled “Navigating Troubled Waters in the Quest for Success in Science”, in which the speaker discussed the challenges and difficulties accompanying academic career development. The next part of the program was a panel discussion titled “The Future of Science: What Skills Will Be Essential for Scientists in 2040”. The conversation on the key competencies for researchers in the coming decades featured, among others, Professor Dariusz Mikielewicz, Professor Ewa Lechman, and PhD Eng. Tomasz Majchrzak. Later, PhD Eng. Mariya E. Ivanova from the Center of Excellence H2Start at Trakia University delivered a lecture titled “Why Ethics Matters: A Personal Perspective on Research Integrity”, addressing the importance of ethics and responsibility in scientific work.
During the event, participants had the opportunity to visit the Young Researchers Office booth, which offered a space for discussion and experience sharing.
In the afternoon, PhD Eng. Agnieszka Lendzion, Head of the Young Researchers Office at Gdańsk Tech, delivered a presentation titled “Support that Makes Sense – What the Young Researchers Team and Office Offer.” The meeting also featured contributions from Professor Robert Jankowski, PhD Eng. Monika Wieczerzak from the IDUB Office, and Anna Modrzejewska, Head of the International Relations Office, who spoke about opportunities for development and international cooperation.
