International Multilateral Partnerships for Resilient Education and Science System in Ukraine (IMPRESS-U)

The National Science Center (NCN) has announced the IMPRESS-U competition, which aims to support scientific potential in Ukraine and open new opportunities for cooperation between Polish and Ukrainian scientists and scientists from the US and the Baltic States. The initiator of the competition and the lead agency where the substantive evaluation of applications will take place is the US National Science Foundation (NSF). The goal of the competition is to support outstanding scientific and technical research, education and innovation through international cooperation, and to promote and stimulate the integration of Ukrainian scientists into the global scientific community.

For whom

The IMPRESS-U competition is aimed at research teams from Poland that will plan to carry out research in a joint project with research teams from Ukraine and the United States (optionally also from Lithuania, Latvia and/or Estonia).

Participating countries

Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, the United States, Poland.

For what

In the IMPRESS-U 3 competition, a Polish research team can receive funds for: salaries for the project manager and contractors, full-time post-doc positions, salaries and stipends for students or doctoral students, purchase or manufacture of scientific and research equipment, and covering other costs related to expenses necessary for the implementation of the research project. Indirect costs may account for a maximum of 20% of direct costs. An additional pool of indirect costs of at most 2% of direct costs may be allocated to Open Access costs.

Thematic scope

The IMPRSS-U competition will fund research in all areas of science, with the exception of humanities and medical research. The detailed thematic scope coincides with that of the EAGER competition.

Budget of the competition

The amount of funds set by the NCN Council to finance research projects planned for implementation by Polish research teams in the IMPRESS-U competition is PLN 10,000,000.

Schedule of the competition

The call for applications at the lead agency is conducted in the period from August 2, 2023 to December 31, 2025.

National level: the Polish research team prepares a national application for the Polish part of the project. The national application should be submitted to NCN in electronic form via OSF, within 7 days from the closing date of the call for full proposals at the international level. Please familiarize yourself with the procedure for submitting applications to NCN.

The information contained in the national application and the joint application must be consistent. The joint application attached to the national application must be the same as the joint application submitted at the international level.

  • We kindly remind you that a complete application for signature, together with attachments, must be submitted to the Project Management Center up to 7 working days before the closing date of the call.
  • Project application for funding in the My PG system must be submitted no later than 14 working days before the application for signature.
