Supporting mobility abroad for the best doctoral students – NAWA internships

We would like to inform you about the launch internship programme for the best doctoral students of our Doctoral School.

The competition offers 9 outgoing mobility grants to support internships abroad. All supported internships must start no earlier than July 1st, 2025 and end no later than November 30th, 2025. The minimum number of points to qualify for the mobility is 14 out of a possible 24 (60%).

The results will be announced on June 6th, 2025.

Outgoing mobility grants will be funded by the project "Gdańsk Tech Doctoral School closer to Europe” (project/contract number: BPI/STE/2023/1/00018/DEC/01; task internal number: 037162, acronym: "PG_go_West", hereafter: the Project), co-financed by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) under the Programme “STER - Internationalisation of Doctoral Schools”. Applying for the mobility grant results in joining the Project. The rules for participation in the project have been defined in the Regulations for Participation in activities funded by the STER Project

Who can submit an application?

Project participants can be the PhD students of the Doctoral School at Gdańsk University of Technology from:

  • Gdańsk University of Technology
  • Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gdańsk
  • Institute of Hydroengineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gdańsk

admitted to the Doctoral School in 2021-2023, who are currently in the second, third or fourth year of their PhD training.

PhD students who went on an internship under the STER project in 2024, cannot apply in 2025.

The rules for applying and awarding outgoing mobility grants in 2025 are set forth in the STER Regulations supporting mobility abroad.


How and when to apply for a mobility grant?
  • The applications for a mobility will be accepted between April 22nd and May 16th, 2025.
  • Applications should be submitted in paper form directly to the STER Project Office , PG Building No. 26, Własna Strzecha 18a, 1st floor, room 102, from  7:00-10:30 - applications should not be submitted to the Doctoral School Office!
  • Applications will be evaluated by a committee. The Office staff is not responsible for the completeness and correctness of applications.
  • In addition to the application, the applicant must submit documents related to the participation in the project, which are described in the Regulations for Participation in the STER Project.

Where can I find templates of documents that I should submit?

Participation in the project activities  involves the necessity of filling in, signing and delivering to the STER Project Office the following documents:


How much is the mobility grant and how will it be paid?
  • The amount of the mobility grant depends on the destination country. It includes travel costs and accommodation and living expenses at flat rates and a fixed amount of mobility allowance (PLN 5,000).
  • The scholarship is exempt from income tax.
  • The scholarships will be granted on the basis of a signed agreement and will be paid in a lump sum before the internship starts. A model of the contract

Upon return from the internship, the PhD student is obliged to submit, within 14 calendar days:

Information about the competition criteria is given in the regulations in §3. In addition, when evaluating publication achievements, the rule of 1 point for publication in a journal from Q2 and 2 points for publication in a journal from Q1 will be applied. If the PhD student is not the first or second author, half of the points will be awarded for the achievement.
