Open day of the Doctoral School at Gdańsk University of Technology
The “PhD Open” day of the Doctoral School will be held at Gdańsk University of Technology on 13 October. The event, organized by the Gdańsk Tech Doctoral Students' Self-Government, is divided into two parts. One is addressed to candidates for doctoral school, the other to doctoral students.
For candidates to the Gdańsk Tech Doctoral School
Candidates for the Doctoral School at Gdańsk University of Technology will be welcomed at 10:00 a.m. in the Hevelius’ Courtyard in the Main Building of Gdańsk University of Technology by prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Gdańsk Tech rector. At 10.30 an information panel will be held, led by prof. Maciej Bagiński, deputy director of the Doctoral School at Gdańsk University of Technology, who will talk about the benefits, requirements and opportunities offered by pursuing a doctorate at Gdańsk University of Technology. A Q&A session will follow.
Then the showcase part will begin at 11.30 with the participation of potential supervisors, Gdańsk Tech PhD students and representatives of the Association of Doctoral Students of Technical Universities, during which the disciplines conducted at the Gdańsk Tech Doctoral School will be presented. There will also be a poster session, during which it will be possible to learn about the opportunities offered by continuing education at Gdańsk Tech in the form of doctoral studies. This part of the open day will last until 2:00 p.m. and it will be an opportunity to exchange observations, broaden horizons and establish cooperation.
Admission to the event is free and registration is not required. Students who take part in the PhD Open will be excused from classes during this time.

For PhD students
At the same time, a part of the event addressed to doctoral students will be held in the Auditorium Novum. A matriculation ceremony is planned at 11.00 with the participation of prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Gdańsk Tech rector. Then at 11.30. prof. Ewa Lechman from the Faculty of Management and Economics will give the inaugural lecture. At 12.00, PhD students will take part in a panel entitled "PhD Journey", during which Prof. Robert Jankowski, deputy director of the Doctoral School at Gdańsk Tech, will talk about the formal requirements and opportunities offered by the Doctoral School. At 1:00 p.m. prof. Janusz Rachoń will give a lecture "An Outline History of Gdańsk Tech". At 1:30 p.m. it will be possible to listen to three 10-minute lectures on grants, scholarships and other travel opportunities, such as the Fulbright program, and from 2.:00 p.m. there will be two 15-minute lectures presenting the National Representation of Doctoral Students and the Gdańsk Tech Doctoral Students' Self-Government.
Admission for registered participants and invited guests.
The event will be broadcast on the Gdańsk University of Technology's YouTube channel.
For students and PhD students
After the break, at 3.30 p.m. the "PhD and Career" discussion panel will begin, during which it will be possible to learn about the inspiring career paths of the invited guests: Jerzy Świniański, PhD, Eng., Tomasz Klajbor, PhD, Krzysztof Samson, PhD, Bartosz Bartoszewicz, PhD and Patrycja Makoś-Chełstowska, PhD, Eng. The event will end with a panel discussion "Cultural Diversity in Science", which will start at 16.30. From 6.30 p.m. there will be an evening integration at the "Kwadratowa" Academic Club.
The PhD Open Day event is carried out as part of the "STEER towards the Internationalization of Doctoral Schools" project, financed by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) as part of the "STER - Internationalization of Doctoral Schools" program.
