Additional NAWA scholarships for the best doctoral students carrying out doctoral projects in international cooperation

We would like to inform you about the start of a scholarship campaign for the best doctoral students of our Doctoral School carrying out doctoral projects in international cooperation.

NAWA scholarships (max. 3 scholarships)  will be funded by the project „Gdańsk Tech Doctoral School closer to Europel” (project/contract number: BPI/STE/2023/1/00018/DEC/01; task internal number: 037162, acronym: "PG_go_West", hereafter: the Project), financed by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) under the Programme “STER - Internationalisation of Doctoral Schools”.

Applying for the scholarship results in joining the Project.

Rules for participation in the project

Who can submit an application?

Project participants can be Phd students of:

  • Gdańsk University of Technology
  • Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gdańsk
  • Institute of Hydroengineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gdańsk

Admitted to our Doctoral School in 2021-2024, who have submitted an individual research proposal  no later than 30th September 2025, and who can provide an evidence of scientific cooperation with a foreign institution in Europe confirmed by a joint scientific publication, which will be a base for ranking position on the list.

Additionally, Polish PhD students, according to formal STER regulations, will have to confirm this cooperation by one of the following requirements:

  1. signed agreement leading to a double doctorate (joint or double diploma)
  2. implementation of the doctoral thesis under the supervision of a second supervisor from outside Poland (who was appointed by the Doctoral School no later than 30 September 2025)
  3. signed agreement with partner institution concerning international doctoral educational programme  

Please note that PhD students who received this scholarship in 2024 and in June 2025 in current edition will have to present different publication than previously.

Rules for applying and awarding scholarships


How and when to apply for a scholarship?
  • The applications for a scholarship will be accepted between 5th December  and 12th Decmber 2025 (please note that on 10.12.2025 the office will be closed)
  • Applications should be submitted in paper form directly to the STER Project Office, PG Building No. 26, Własna Strzecha 18a, 1st floor, room 102, from  7:00-10:30.
  • Applications will be evaluated by a committee.
  • In addition to the application, the applicant must submit documents related to participation in the project, which are described in the Regulations for Participation in the STER Project.

Important: Doctoral School Office does not accept or verify the completeness and correctness of applications.

Participation in the project activities  involves the necessity of filling in, signing and delivering to the STER Project Office the following documents:


How much is the scholarship and how long will it be paid?

Doctoral scholarships in amount of PLN 3,000 per month shall be granted for six months from 1st January 2026 to 30th June 2026 and shall be paid monthly. The scholarship is exempt from income tax.
