PhD Open at Gdańsk Tech 2026 – Inauguration for Gdańsk Tech Doctoral Students | Gdańsk University of Technology

Are you approaching graduation or a recent graduate wondering what comes next? PhD Open offers a closer look at the opportunities available at the Doctoral School and the challenges faced by early-career researchers. Join us on the Gdańsk Tech campus, or watch the livestream if you cannot attend in person. 

PhD Open traditionally combines the formal matriculation ceremony for new doctoral students with an inaugural lecture and talks on research and support available at the university. Organised by the Gdańsk Tech Doctoral Students’ Self-Government with support from the Doctoral School, the event is now in its fourth edition. 

Three perspectives on pursuing a PhD 

This year introduces a new programme structure featuring three thematic sessions: 

• PhD Success Toolkit – doctoral training, resolving conflicts at the university and the work of the Doctoral Students’ Self-Government. Practical guidance on settling into academic life and accessing support. 

• The Road to Impact – conducting research, publishing results and building academic collaborations. An insight into developing research ideas and sharing your findings. 

• Research in Motion – national and international research funding opportunities, scholarships and support programmes for doctoral students at Gdańsk Tech. 

The programme also includes coffee breaks and lunch provided by the organiser, with an informal social gathering at AK Kwadratowa in the evening, starting at 19:00.

We’ll do our best to answer your questions and point you in the right direction, whether you need help with administrative or technical matters or are looking for psychological support. 

There will also be a lottery at the stand, with Gdańsk Tech merchandise to be won. 

Join us on campus or online 

• Date: 9 October 2026. 

• Venue: Main Auditorium in the Main Building of Gdańsk Tech. 

• Schedule: on-site check-in opens at 09:00; the ceremony begins at 10:00; the programme in the Main Auditorium ends at 14:45. 

• Online: a livestream is planned for those unable to attend in person.

• All times are local to Gdańsk: CEST (UTC+2).
