From October 21-23, 2024 the EOSC Symposium 2024 took place in Berlin. The European Commission funded and organized the event as part of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) initiative. The Gdańsk University of Technology has been an active member of the EOSC Association since September 2020, represented by the Deputy Chancellor for IT, Dr. Eng. Andrzej Sobecki.

Deputy Director of the Library, MSc Magdalena Szuflita-Żurawska, who also serves as the Rector's Plenipotentiary for Open Science, and Deputy Director for IT Systems Development, MSc Eng. Michał Nowacki, represented Gdańsk University of Technology at the EOSC Symposium.

The symposium addressed research data issues, project solutions, and data-sharing infrastructures. Special attention was given to developing a shared research ecosystem for Europe by establishing the EOSC Federation. A significant step toward this goal was the announcement in Berlin of the launch of the production version of the EOSC EU Node, which aims to provide an interoperability framework for future infrastructure nodes within the Federation.

EOSC EU Node platform supports multidisciplinary and international research using data according to FAIR principles. Within this environment, researchers can access tools and services that support scientific processes, communication, and data exchange between research teams, such as ownCloud, Jupyter Notebooks, mass file transfer, real-time data synchronization, and virtual machines.

Resources from the EU Node are also available to researchers at our university. To access them, go to the European Open Science Cloud EU Node website, select "Gdańsk University of Technology" from the list of European institutions, and log in using your credentials for Moja PG. After successful verification, you will have access to the services and tools panel and 100 virtual credits for purchasing these services. For example, 50GB of cloud storage costs 10 credits per month, and the pool of 100 credits is renewed every three months.
