Clarivate Analytics and Elsevier Release Updated Bibliometric Indicators
Clarivate Analytics and Elsevier published updated editions of their bibliometric indicators in June of this year, introducing methodological modifications aimed at strengthening research integrity and expanding coverage of scientific journals.
Journal Citation Reports 2025 (Clarivate):
Key features of the latest JCR edition:
- Scope: 22,249 journals from 111 countries, with 618 titles receiving the Journal Impact Factor (JIF) calculation for the first time. Journals were assigned to 254 subject categories. It's also worth noting that among them are over 6,200 titles published in the gold open-access model.
- Changes aimed at strengthening research integrity and transparency: exclusion of citations from retracted articles when calculating JIF (affects approximately 1% of journals) while including retracted articles in the denominator of the JIF formula (i.e., the total number of citable articles in a given journal).
