On 8 January 2026, Gdańsk University of Technology signed an agreement establishing the Polish National EOSC Node – EOSC Poland. The document concerns the joint implementation of the project "European Open Science Cloud – Polish National Node" and formalises a collaboration that has been ongoing for a year between the National Science Centre, the AGH University of Science and Technology – Cyfronet, the University of Warsaw, and the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. On behalf of Gdańsk University of Technology, the agreement was signed by prof. DSc (Eng.) Dariusz Mikielewicz, Vice-Rector for Research, Corresponding Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The main objective of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) is to create an open digital research environment that facilitates researchers’ access to data repositories, cloud services, and advanced analytical tools. This vision is implemented through a coordinated network of European and national research infrastructures.

Since March 2025, the Polish National Node – EOSC PL – together with 13 other nodes across Europe, has been actively contributing to the development of the principles and mechanisms of the EOSC Federation. The task of EOSC PL is to create a framework enabling the smooth integration of national research resources within the EOSC, as well as to increase their accessibility, interoperability and reusability.

Gdańsk University of Technology has been a member of the EOSC Association since September 2020. The principal delegate representing the University in the EOSC Association is Dr Eng. Andrzej Sobecki. The Deputy Delegate is  Magdalena Szuflita-Żurawska (MSc), Head of the Scholarly Communication and Open Science Services, Leader of the Open Science Competence Centre, and the Rector's Plenipotentiary for Open Science.

As part of its activities, Gdańsk University of Technology actively participates in the work of EOSC Federation working groups, including Federated AAI, Sensitive Health Data, Integrating Scientific Data Repositories, and Cybersecurity. The University is also engaged in scientific use cases, in particular the project "Multi-centric validation of AI models for prostate-cancer screening", coordinated by BBMRI.
