FAQ

First steps in the Library
 
To have access to the Gdańsk Tech Library resources and log onto a library workstation, activate your library account.
 
The library account must be activated in the printed Library online catalog. After clicking on the field "Account activation / Forgot your password?" a form will be displayed in which you should provide the library card number (for students it is the prefix 5200 + index number) and e-mail address (s123456@student.pg.edu.pl, where 123456 is the number of the album / index / ID card) or -mail provided in the eRecruitment system) and click the Change password button.

Who can use the Library resources
 
Any interested person can use the printed collections on site. In order to borrow collections outside, you must have a library account. An account is automatically created for students and employees, but it can be set up by any user, also not related to the university. Detailed instructions can be found in the regulations.
 
Yes. A user from outside Gdańsk Tech can set up the so-called fee-paying account. It allows you to borrow a maximum of 2 books. For each of them, you must pay PLN 100 of a returnable deposit. You can create an account here. The details for the money transfer can be found here.
 

Yes, by creating an account: Reader from outside the Gdańsk Tech (standards, deposit account, databases).

Readers from outside Gdańsk Tech may use electronic sources only in the Gdańsk Tech Library - remote access is not possible. According to the license agreements, selected materials can be downloaded and printed for private purposes.

 
This option is only for Gdańsk Tech faculty.

Using the Library resources
 
The online catalog of the Gdańsk Tech Library is a "list" of all printed collections (books and magazines) stored in the library, which allows you to search for them.
 
Multi-search engine is a modern search service for access to full-text electronic sources - books and magazines subscribed by Gdańsk Tech and printed resources included in the library catalog. Through one search window, users can search all databases and resources of the Gdańsk Tech Library.
 
The book machine is a self-service device that allows you to collect copies ordered online in the library catalog.
 
The opening hours of the Main Library and its branches can be found here. You can use the electronic offer available 24 hours a day via the Gdańsk Tech Library website.
 
We order books with the location of the Library Warehouse via an online catalog. They can be picked up at the Lending Room or book machine located in front of the entrance to the Library. We order books from a given branch of the Gdańsk Tech Library directly at the branch or by sending the order to the e-mail address of the branch.
 
Books from the location of the Library Warehouse and the Library Hall should be returned using the drop safe (self-service device in the Main Building, on the left side of the entrance to the Main Library). Books with the location of a given branch should be returned via a self-service device located at a given branch or, if there is no such device, directly to the librarian or at the night safe in the Gdańsk Tech Main Building).
 
The waiting time for the collection of books ordered to the Lending Room is usually no more than 3 hours. Orders should be collected during the Library's opening hours. All orders are processed on an ongoing basis. After receiving the order in the book machine (receiving an e-mail about the possibility of collecting it), the books must be picked up within 48 hours.
 
You will receive an e-mail (the one provided in the library system) informing about the status of the books (status: To be picked up) or you can check your library account - information about the completed order will appear in the "Orders" tab.
 
The user may prolong books from the "Main book collection" and "Manual" categories several times. In addition, they may independently renew books from the "Short-term loans" category. However, books with the "Book in the Reading Room" category may only be prolonged by a librarian.

The collection of books in the Lending Room is possible during the opening hours of the Gdańsk Tech Library. Collecting a book from the book machine is possible during the opening hours of the Gdańsk Tech Main Building (7 days a week, between 6 - 21.30)
 
Payments for the settlement of overdue financial obligations (e.g. fees for overdue books) are accepted cashless in the form of card payments at the Lending Library and at the all branches of the Gdańsk Tech Library or by bank transfer:

No, magazines as well as newspapers and weeklies are available only on site, in their locations. If necessary, a scan or photocopy of the necessary articles can be made.
 
When it comes to historic collections published until 1945, doctoral dissertations, standards, materials imported by interlibrary lending facilities, library collections reserved by the library and deposited publications, it is not possible to borrow them outside. Access to them is possible only on site in the respective Reading Rooms.
 
Yes, but the borrower is responsible for the return of the books. It's advisable to log into your library account to make sure the book has been returned.

Copy, print and scan
 
Yes - all the branches of the Gdańsk Tech Library have scanners. There is also one scanner in the main library hall.
Photocopies can be made in the following branches: FCEE, MAE, EACE, ETI and in the branch of the former Faculty of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology.
 
The scan itself is free; scan with printout - 12 groszy for 1 printout (payable by card).
 
Yes, but only for the so-called "Personal use".
 
Yes. Each user of the Gdańsk Tech Library may use the free service "ON-DEMAND SCAN" of distributed minor works and fragments of larger works (single chapters from books or journal articles) stored in the Gdańsk Tech Library for their own use. The service consists in placing an order for scans by e-mail to the address of the branch. The service does not include scanning of entire books or their larger fragments. The service also does not include special collections. The sent scans may be used by the ordering party only for their own use.

Internet, electronic resources and remote access
 
Yes, you can use the Internet after logging in to the computers in the Library.

Eduroam wireless Internet is also available (logging in as to the MojaPG platform). In case of problems, please contact the IT Service Center.

The user of electronic resources can be any student and employee of Gdańsk University of Technology as well as persons with a substantive interest in the resources of the Library.
 

Yes. You only need an active library account. However, there cannot be any overdue books or unpaid payments on it. If you want to find licensed e-resources, you should use the Gdańsk Tech Library website.

Remote access to electronic sources may not be used by fee-paying readers (so-called external users), students and employees of other universities in the Tri-City. They can only use e-resources on site at the Gdańsk Tech Library. According to the license agreements, selected materials can be downloaded and printed for private purposes.

 
Yes. A user from outside Gdańsk University of Technology can access electronic resources, but only at computer workstations in the library. In order to do this, you need to create a database user account.

Suggest a book
 

Book purchase offers can be submitted via the "Suggest a book" form on the Gdańsk Tech Library website.

Submitting the form does not guarantee the purchase of the book for the Library. The purchases will be made depending on the financial means of the Library.


Circulation card
 
Student circulation eCards are settled on an ongoing basis after being issued by the Dean's Office. The condition for the settlement of the eCard by the Library is the return of all borrowed books and settlement of any fees for keeping the library materials. The signing of the circulation eCard by the Main Library is tantamount to the settlement at the branches. Gdańsk Tech employees still settle the circulation card in a traditional, paper form.
