Migration is one of the key phenomena of the modern world – it has a real impact on societies, economies, and the everyday lives of millions of people. At the same time, it is a topic heavily burdened with stereotypes and simplifications that often overshadow reliable knowledge.

During the meeting, we will take a closer look at migration in the Polish context – both the experience of Polish emigration and the growing presence of foreigners. Together, we will reflect on what we actually know about migration, which beliefs are myths, and which are based on facts.

Program:

  • an introductory mini-lecture on migration in Poland
  • discussion of the most common myths and facts about migration
  • expert talk
  • open discussion with participants

The meeting will be led by experts from the Emigration Museum in Gdynia:

  • Dr. Kamila Kowalska – political scientist, expert in migration and social integration, affiliated with the University of GdaĹ„sk and research centers in Poland and abroad;
  • Dr. RafaĹ‚ RaczyĹ„ski – political scientist, researcher of migration and diasporas, affiliated with the University of GdaĹ„sk and active in academic and expert work in migration policy.

The intercultural competence enhancement program OPEN UP! DARE TO! is part of the project "Internationalization of Gdańsk University of Technology: development of WELCOME SERVICES/promoting WELCOME CULTURE” No. BNP/WTP/2023/1/00169/U/00001, which is funded by the National Agency for Academic Exchange as part of the Welcome to Poland program.
