Our PhD Student will study quantum magnetism at US Ames Lab

Szymon Królak - PhD student at the Doctoral School at Gdańsk University of Technology, scientifically affiliated with the Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics, who began his PhD training in the academic year 2023/2024 under the supervision of prof. dr hab. inż. Tomasz Klimczuk, as a scholar of the Bekker Programme of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), will conduct research in the group of Professor Paul Canfield, an expert in the field of crystal growth and solid-state physics at Ames International Laboratory (Iowa State University).

Our doctoral student will start working on the project “Fragile Magnets: A Way To Explore Quantum Criticality” at Ames International Laboratory this September.

The PhD student also received an award as part of the “Pearls of Science” program granted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education – for funding granted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the Division of Strongly Correlated Electronic Systems under the supervision of Prof. Tomasz Klimczuk, he is conducting a project titled “Layered transition metal oxypnictides: Kondo screening, magnetism and superconductivity”
