Culture as a Bridge – another meeting in the “Open Up, Dare To!” series

Interculturality is an increasingly present phenomenon in the modern world. It refers to the meeting and coexistence of different cultures, languages, traditions, and value systems. It requires openness, empathy, and a willingness to engage in dialogue, as cultural differences can be both a source of enrichment and misunderstanding.

Through interculturality, we gain the ability to see the world from multiple perspectives. This fosters both personal and social development, helps break stereotypes, builds mutual respect, and enhances our understanding of others. Intercultural competences are becoming essential today, especially in diverse working environments.

Interculturality does not mean giving up one’s identity, but rather combining diversity in a harmonious and creative way.

Based on selected initiatives of the Nadbałtyckie Centrum Kultury in Gdańsk, we will demonstrate how culture can become an effective tool for intercultural integration. Projects such as “Multicultural Pomerania. Multicultural Baltic”, the “Window to the World” Festival of Cultures, and “Flavours of Culture” create spaces for dialogue, encounter, and mutual understanding.

The event will also explain why integration – rather than assimilation – is key to building an intercultural society. Integration allows individuals to maintain their identity while actively participating in social life, leading to a more balanced and inclusive community.

The guest speaker will be Tomasz Lipski – a cultural animator and coordinator of intercultural activities at the Nadbałtyckie Centrum Kultury in Gdańsk. He is actively involved in numerous social and cultural initiatives, a member of the Pomeranian Council for Regional Migration Policy, and a co-author of strategic documents on migrant integration, including the “Immigrant Integration Model”.
