Let's meet. Pomerania: Language, Nervous System & Community | Gdańsk University of Technology

On 26 September, Gdańsk University of Technology will host the next event in the Let's meet. Pomerania: Finding Your Ground series, dedicated to people living in Pomerania and navigating the challenges of building a life in a new country.

Moving abroad is an experience that goes far beyond learning a new language. An unfamiliar environment, everyday situations and the need to find your place in a new reality can affect stress levels, well-being and your sense of belonging. During the September event, participants will have the opportunity to explore these experiences from two perspectives – the impact of change and stress on the nervous system, and practical approaches to learning Polish.

Stress and the nervous system

One part of the event will be led by Amanda Łabędzka, who will explore how stress and adapting to a new environment can affect the body and nervous system. Drawing on her own experience of building a life in Poland, she will offer insights into understanding these reactions and navigating the challenges of living abroad.

Learning Polish as an adult

Elizabeth Peck will offer a practical perspective on learning Polish as an adult newcomer. She will share real-world strategies that can help participants engage with the language in everyday situations and overcome some of the barriers that come with learning a new language.

Connection and community

The event will also provide an opportunity to meet new people, exchange experiences and connect with others who are going through a similar journey of finding their place in a new environment. The programme will include playful icebreakers, informal conversations and plenty of space to connect with the local community.

The organisers have also thought about younger participants. Children aged 3–11 are welcome to join the event and will have the opportunity to take part in creative workshops prepared especially for them while adults participate in the main programme.
