Established in 2019, the European Alliance of Technology Universities brings together ten leading European technical universities with a research and scientific profile. It is part of a European Universities Initiative whose aim is to improve the quality, accessibility and international competitiveness of higher education in Europe by facilitating the mobility of students and academic staff, promoting interdisciplinary learning and strengthening cooperation with relevant social and industrial stakeholders.

The main objective of ENHANCE is to promote innovative technological and social progress, taking into account the principles of sustainable development. The following universities belong to the alliance:

  • Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden)
  • ETH Zürich (Switzerland) – since 2022
  • Gdańsk University of Technology (Poland) – since 2022
  • Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Norway)
  • Politecnico di Milano (Italy)
  • RWTH Aachen University (Germany)
  • Technische Universität Berlin (Germany)
  • TU Delft (Netherlands) – since 2022
  • Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain)
  • Warsaw University of Technology (Poland)

In 2023, the ENHANCE+ project was launched within the alliance, aiming to create a more integrated European higher education area. Its implementation is expected to take four years and involve 10 partner universities within 10 work packages (WP). Gdańsk University of Technology is the coordinator of Work Package 2 – Human Dimension. As part of this task, skills development programmes dedicated to administrative staff have been initiated, with the aim of creating a community of practitioners open to cooperation and mutual support. As part of these activities, the Gdańsk Tech Library coordinates the Open Science Hub programme – a series of online meetings culminating in a staff week, which aims to exchange experiences and good practices between librarians, RDM specialists and researchers from associated universities.

Open Science Hub

ENHANCE representatives are also involved in thematic groups of the FOREU4ALL network of European university alliances, which provides a common platform for all European university alliances to support their cooperation and development by sharing best practices. In the Library and Open Science thematic group, the ENHANCE alliance is represented by Magdalena Szuflita-Żurawska, head of the Scholarly Communication and Open Science Section of the Gdańsk Tech Library.
