Open Monographs

In modern science, the importance of monographs as a valuable means of communication is not diminishing, especially in the humanities and social sciences. Open Access Monographs are an opportunity for researchers to reach a wider audience. However, unlike journals, discussions about open access to books are still in their infancy.

In Poland, the issue of scientific monographs published in open access has not been studied so far. However, there are a number of reports on this subject by international consortia and organizations. If you are interested in this topic, we refer you to the documents below.

A document presenting the results of the survey conducted by the Open Access LIBER working group among European libraries. The research aimed to investigate the activities and strategies related to and implementation of open access in the case of monographs.

A report prepared by Universities UK Open Access Monographs Group.
The document is a summary of two meetings organized by the Universities UK organization in 2018 - for scientific societies and publishers. It is an element of Universities UK's long-term strategy for the development of the policy of open access to monographs.

Towards a Roadmap for Open Access Monographs. A Knowledge Exchange Report (2019)

A report is a collection of recommendations and examples of good practice for monographs published in open access. It was created for various groups of stakeholders: sponsors, authors, universities, publishers, suppliers of new technologies and libraries.
